I am most looking forward to our nightly Advent calendar ... each night we read a scripture and do a family activity. Even my teenage girls still love this tradition!

I am looking forward to having my husband home from Iraq. For some reason, this deployment has been especially stressful for me and the kids. He gets back in mid-December and I am going to do a 25 days of Christmas album(or maybe the whole month of December?) to document our time just prior to and after his return home. I plan to have all the shopping and decorating done before he gets home so we can all just kick back and enjoy being together. The first time in a year our family will be together...I can't wait!

This holiday season is filled with firsts for us. My top three things:
1. Our first Christmas in our new home--with a real chimney and fireplace for Santa which thrills my 2 & 5 year olds!
2. Having opportunity to host my in-laws this Christmas, the first for my husband to be with them in 13 years.
3. Welcoming our first baby boy into the family, we're due Christmas day!

Snow, Snow, SNOW! and of course cozy warm fires, both inside and out. I am one of those nutty people who just thrives on being outside in the winter. I love getting everyone bundled up, watching the kids wallow in it, seeing the dogs dig their noses in it...I even like shoveling it! During outside play we usually get a good fire going so cold wet hands can warm up and then we all come inside and sit in front of a toasty fire with homemade soup or hot chocolate.

This holiday season I am looking forward to taking the time to enjoy it. I am a college instructor, and my busiest time of year is at the end of the semester. With grades due just a few days before Christmas this year, it will be easy to ignore this important time, so I am setting the intention to make the time for the holidays.

I love everything about the Christmas season, the weather, the shopping for others, the music and baking. But I'm really looking forward to spend time with family. We don't see them often enough and this Christmas some are coming to spend it with us.
