One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I think my word for 2009 will be SIMPLIFY. I need to simplify my life and the clutter in my mind and home. With 2 littles ones under 2 I am finding our home has become cluttered with things that I am sure we could do without.

My word is PRECIOUS........
I too am expecting a little one in 2009 (our first). All the changes (welcomed) are making me realize how precious a new addition will be to our family, our marriage. And just how precious my time is. Work is not what defines me - it pays the bills...
Welcome PRECIOUS baby boy:)

I LOVE this idea! Thank you so much for inspiring us.
I think my word has to be LISTEN for 2009. I have realized over this last month that I have a hard time listening to my kids, my husband, and even friends because I get so engrossed in what I'm doing. I tune them out. I do the same thing spiritually too. I tune out that Still Small Voice that has good advice and guidance because I'm too busy.

hi ali... this is a wonderful idea even though it is difficult to choose just one word for 2009. my word is journey, but not in the sense of physical travel. what i mean by journey is to continue on the never ending but enjoyable journey which brings me closer to my real self... inspiring that journey in my just grown children... seeking that journey in my workplace... and finding that journey in my creative and artistic expression.
we are getting snowed in here in new england today! happy 2009! mary

I'm not sure about my word. I would really like to get our financial life back on track so the only word I can think about is money but that sure doesn't inspire much! I would also like to start embarking into the world of Montessori so that I can teach my daughter.

It's not flashy, but it's what my focus for 2009 has to be:
COMMIT
Commit to God and to my family. I need to settle on my priorities, especially with graduate school, and commit to my decisions.
Thanks for the inspiration. Have a blessed New Year and congratulations on your impending arrival :-).

My word is "committed". I want to be committed to being a better wife, and mother. I want to be committed to reading the Bible daily, to project 365 and blogging daily. To scrapbooking more. And to being a person who speaks positive words to others.

hello Ali!
Nurture is a great word for...especially with the new baby on the way
My word for the new year will probably be CHANGE...we will be going through a lot of changes this year: our biggest change being I will go back to work, and my little 2 year old will be going into day care...it makes me a little sad, but CHANGE can bring good things.

Hi Ali,
Thank you for this challenge. My word for 2009 is:
H U M I L I T Y
1. In ethics, freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one's own worth. In theology, humility consists in lowliness of mind; a deep sense of one's own unworthiness in the sight of God, self-abasement, penitence for sin, and submission to the divine will.
Before honor is humility. Prov.15.
Serving the Lord with all humility of mind. Acts.20.
2. Act of submission.
With these humilities they satisfied the young king.

My word is VOICE. I need to remind myself sometimes that I have a voice and I should use it - I want this to be the year I don't leave things unsaid, that I tell people how much they mean to me. And in my scrapping I really want to find my voice this year too.
