One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I think my word for 2009 is going to be APPRECIATE! I have so much to appreciate and be thankful for (a fantastic husband that makes me laugh, two beautiful, healthy boys, a great job, the sweetest dog, a wonderful family, etc...) but I get caught up in the stress of daily life and forget to appreciate all that I do have!
Happy New Year to all!

My 2009 word is adjust. As a small business owner with my husband, we are having to adjust to the economics. As a mother, wife, grandmother, I hope to adjust to all of the wonderful changes this year and embrace them each.

I think my word for the year will be "live", as in making sure I am living life instead of life living me, doing things with intention, being aware, etc. So many connotations! Best wishes for your family and your baby-girl-to-be!!

I'm not positive of my word but I'm leaning towards "embrace". I feel that this year will bring many changes to me and my family and I want to make the most of them and not let them hold me back.

Diligence - 1. conscientiousness in paying proper attention to a task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation
2. persevering determination to perform a task;
I need to be better at completing tasks in a timely manner and giving each task the attention is deserves.
Thanks for the challenge/inspiration to choose a word to focus on in 2009!
Happy New Year!!

My word this year is TIME. I will be focusing on prioritizing and allocating. What I can change or shift so that I can give full one on one attention to the most important people in my life, my kids. Not just physically but metally too. As a single, working mom I feel pulled in so many directions. I am going to focus on TIME!

I am still deciding, but I think I've narrowed it down to CREATE/CREATIVE or INSPIRE. It's just about giving myself permission to be creative, be inspired, create art, etc. We'll see where this leads...

I am so excited to be joining the One Little Word movement for 2009. This time last year the idea was nice but I could not think of one word that would cover me and mean enough. I have been thinking about a word for 09 since I read one of your earlier posts and today as I read your blog the word came to me: Connected. We moved 1000 miles from our family and friends 3 years ago and it has been very hard for me to stay as connected as I want to be because of work hours and family needs. Also my daughter moved to her own home 4 months ago, 2 hours away and while we are very connected I want to continue to nuture and grow our family relationships. So I hope that focusing on my word will help me to deepen and grow my connections. Thanks Ali for the inspiritation.

Hi Ali: My word is courage. Courage is what I will need to make some changes in my life for 2009. It's going to be hard, but I know I can do it.

My word this year is CAN. As in I CAN do whatever I put my mind to, which includes getting healthy, catching up on scrapbooking, and saving money for a house.

ACCOMPLISH
1.to bring to its goal or conclusion; carry out; perform; finish: to accomplish one's mission.
2. to complete
Accompish, nothing major, just get my to-do list everyday. Get my work done, scrapbook a little, housework, healthy meals. Not to waste time on things that won't help me accomplish my daily tasks. But I have one big goal of losing 30 lbs.

I am sticking with the word I used in 2008 for 2009- embrace. So many things I need to go with and accept and really make my own in this next year too.

Words are important and I love the notion of focusing on one word. My word for 2009 is "grace." For me that single word encompasses much more in my life than just five little letters. Thanks so much for your posts. I'm always inspired by them.

I skimmed through the comments and I saw this word already several times...I started to think I shouldn't use it and I realized I was doing it again! I was getting distracted!! I need to FOCUS! I have great intentions a lot of times...but then BAM! I get distracted and go another way. So - FOCUS it is. I have many things to FOCUS on and I know that this word will help my 2009. Our church has a word this year too - FLOURISH. =]

I love this idea! My word is going to be PURPOSE. So I can focus more on end goals rather than instant satisfaction.
