One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word for 2009 is DREAM. 2008 was a crazy year with a lot of set backs. I have been so overwhelmed by everything that I stopped making plans for the future. I need to start planning and focus on the fun adventures ahead.

Hi Ali,
I've given this so much thought this year, a word that I can truly incorporate into my every day life. My word for 2009 is: CHOICE. The choices I make, whether I decide to do the things I want to or not, whether I'm pleased with myself or not, are going to be because of the CHOICES I'm making... I'm so excited about my word!

Hi Ali - my personal word for 2009 is FAMILY. I have 3 daughters who have grown into wonderful young ladies and I don't know where the time has gone. My oldest is turning 25, youngest 18 and it seems like yesterday they were toddlers. I want to really take time to appreciate the time I have with family: husband, kids, parents, siblings, cousins, etc. Life zooms by and we never know when our time is up.
Happy New Year! Doris

I think I'm going to go for 'priorities.' I know a lot of people talk about simplifying, which is kind of what I want to do...yet I think I want to focus on what is really important, not just taking things 'out' of my life. Specifically I want to think about family priorities--time together, one-on-one time, scripture reading, praying together, exercise, etc.

Wow! Reading everyone's word has been inspiring. I think if I have to choose one word, it's LOVE. I have so much of that word in my life and I easily forget it. I get so caught up in the rush and insanity of my life and sometimes focus too much on what we don't have. Instead of feeling GRATEFUL (which is a close 2nd.) I need to remember all that I LOVE and all that LOVE me.
Thanks for helping so many of us focus. Happy New Year Ali!

Can I just say I think you have a dictionary going on here with all the words. Mine is actually two. Simple Happiness. With 2 boys and a husband it is important to find the simple happiness in each day.
Happy New Year!

I picked:
Accomplish
–adjective
1. completed; done; effected: an accomplished fact.
2. highly skilled; expert: an accomplished pianist.
3. having all the social graces, manners, and other attainments of polite society.
I think the biggest accomplishment I want to see happen in 2009 is growth in my Close To My Heart business.
Other things I want to accomplish in 2009:
--moving into my very own house
--continued/improved health and wellness
--continued balance of work, family and friends in my life
--more personal scrapbooking

I was at Lisa Leonard's site earlier this week, and thought to myself, I need to order one of her necklaces, to help remind myself of my word. SERENITY. I have been having a really hard time this year just accepting people as they are, flaws and all. My goal for 2009 is to live the serenity prayer, "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Thanks so much for all the wonderful ideas you have shared - I really appreciate all that you do!

Hi Ali. My word for 2009 is COURAGE. I need to have courage to face some of the changes that need to happen within my life; courage to follow my gut; courage to be with myself or to open my heart to let someone else in to be with me.
Happy new year!

I think i will have to choose Strength. I must be strong to deal with my husbands demons that haunt us both, i must be strong to keep a positive attitude while he is out of work, i must be strong to take time for myself, my fitness, my health and my mental well being. I must be strong or i will fail.

I've been thinking about the word "Yes" for several months now. I haven't decided for sure if this will be my word for 2009. "Nurture" may fit the bill for me, too.

I really had to think about this. I think my word to live by for 2009 is MOXIE. My family is making bold changes for the new year and it is taking a lot of bravery to do so. Wishing you the best in the new year.
