One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word for 2009 is going to be ORGANIZATION. Getting the house completely organized and more functional. Making workout schedules and cooking plans to live healthier. Getting my pictures uploaded and backed-up and edited and off of the computer. All manners of organization going on here this year. And really, I'm quite excited!

My word for this year is DECLUTTER. I have never been a collector, but you know how "stuff" tends to collect when you aren't looking. Beginning with one drawer/cabinet/closet at a time, I will DECLUTTER (with God's help) our home and, in the process, our lives.

CONQUER... implies gaining mastery of.
There are many things I'd like to CONQUER in 2009. My main one, being time management, making more time for family, as well as time for myself (without feeling guilty.) Happy New Year Ali!

Hi Ali,
I am still debating my word for the new year. I want to be more reflective, and conscious of my thoughts and actions, so I am searching for a word in that spectrum. I am hoping to find it soon!
My word for 2007 was steadfast, because my father had a stroke, and so this past year has been all about staying determined and firm in belief, and helping him through his recovery.
Also, I wanted to let you know that your blog is a constant source of inspiration. You help me keep scrapbooking real, reminding me to focus on the most important things: words + photos! Thank you for that :)

I love reading the words everyone has chosen, and the reasons behind them. My word is BALANCE. I want to balance work & personal life, live a more balanced/healthy lifestyle, balance the time I spend at home with time spent out meeting new people and being active, balance family time with alone time, and balance TV time with craft time.

My 2009 word is Choose.
My 2008 word was Create. It was perfect for me and it has seeped deep into the marrow of my bones.

Hi Ali,
I absolutely adore your blog. You inspire me every day. Reading about Simon and his journey helped me so much to stay focused and hopeful with my two year old little boy who has some signs of autism although we have not yet received an official diagnosis. Reading about Simon who seems like such a wonderful little boy provided me with joy and hope for my own son.
My word for 2009 is alive. I want to come alive again in 2009. 2008 was a rough, long year and I have just been going through the motions. I want to feel alive again in everything I do this year.
Thanks for the inspiration and Happy New Year!

Ali -
I used Charmed last year. I had a necklace from Lisa made to remind me what a charmed life I was leading. This year I have picked Grace. There are so many meanings to this word when you really look into it. I find that living life is much easier when I approach it with thanks and the mindset associated with it so Grace it is. I have already put together a gratitude book which I entitled Daily Grace to remind me to really focus on my word and all that it entails.

It's been a hectic and difficult last couple of months and I've been straining for some calm in my life. I've decided that my word for 09 should reflect that - so I'm thinking the word will be "simple" or "simplify" - it's something I need to do to reduce clutter, stress and difficulty. It's something I can be proud of during the next year!

Still mulling this over - maybe I should choose procrastination. Looking for something that embodies my transition from chaufeuring Mom to Mother of a sixteen year old daughter. I anticipate more time to devote to all that I have let whiz by me while running here and there. Perhaps being more deliberate in my choices and actions.
Thanks for the inspiration.

My word for 2009 is Harmony:
1. agreement; accord; harmonious relations.
2. a consistent, orderly, or pleasing arrangement of parts; congruity.
Trying to get my life to be a bit more harmonious. Trying to concentrate on the way I want my life to be, to be active in shaping my life, and making it more harmonious with the people and things that surround me. I've participated in the one little word idea for the past 3 years, and I think that this year will be the biggest change for me yet, and I'm looking forward to it.

i haven't settled on a word yet, but i have set some rules for the new year:
time in my art journal every day (it gets pushed off to the back burner too much, when it really relaxes and energizes me for everything else i need to do), and go on walks.
both things to relax and energize me...exactly what i need a little of these days!

DISCIPLINE
That is my word for 2009. It has so many negative connotations, but I want to make friends with it. I've struggled against it for a long time. I thought of it as something to avoid. Now, I want to embrace it. Like everyone, I want more disciple in my eating and exercising, but more importantly, I want more discipline in my thoughts and actions. I want to focus on all the good and beauty around me everyday. With discipline, I can enjoy all the gift a already have. With disciple I can be on the outside what I feel I am on the inside. I think discipline and I are going to be great partners by the end of the year. At least I hope so!

My word for 2008 was "wait" and for 2009 God is calling me to have faith. So faith it is....that everything I was waiting for in 2008 will come to fruition in 2009.

My word for the year will be EFFORT. I am going to put more effort in everything I do this year. I tend to be a bit lazy sometimes and don't try as hard as I could in all areas of my life. This year I will put more effort into maintaining my home. More effort into growing in my relationships with family and friends. I will show more effort in trying to advance at work.
