One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

CREATE.
Create the life I want to live.
Create the body I want to have.
Create the mother, wife, friend that I want to be.
If I don't like my circumstances, CREATE them to be happy.
Dealing with sickness, the unknown future, I just want to make the most of each and every day, on my own circumstances.
Create and be.

This will be my first year to choose a word and I must say I am very excited. I have been inspired by you, Ali, when I chose my word. My word for 2009 in "SIMPLIFY". Choosing a word, this word, will give me some focus on something for which I have yearned for a long time now. Simplify my home, simplify my mind, simplify my schedule and simplify my life in general. Thank you for the awesome website and the inspiration you give to me and others. Have a safe and happy New Year!!

My word for 2009 is FOCUS.
I have one last dream to bring in to reality, and I want to really FOCUS on that.....as well as FOCUS on all the meaningful, small, often easily over-looked things that bring simple joy every day.

I've been thinking about this ONE word for quite a while now, since you first posted about it...I love your choice of "Nurture", it almost makes me sway over...but I am loving this at the moment: "PATIENCE", something I should focus on more in 2009. I find myself repeating it to myself over and over in trying times....like a mantra, and find that it puts a warm, comforting feeling over me. Thank you for all your inspiration, I love your blog.
Happy 2009 to you and your family!

I'm still debating on my word for 2009. I was thinking of going with 3 because I need to focus on each for different reasons - but they all kinda go together.
Prioritize
Organize
Prepare (spiritually and temporally)
so yah - still thinking of one word to sum all those up.
congrats on your new baby girl. your word of 'nurture' is perfect!

What a great idea to come up with a word and focus on it for the whole year. The word I've picked is grow or growth. At a time in my life where I feel in a rut, this next year I want to remember to continue to grow... no matter the circumstances I find myself in.

My word is carpe diem. According to dictionary.com it means seize the day; enjoy the present as opposed to placing all hope in the future. I am always concerned with what will happen tomorrow instead of enjoying this day in all that it has to offer.

Focus - I have lots of goals set for Funky Finds this year, especially since we are holding our first indie craft fair (the Funky Finds Spring Fling) in April. I want to focus on making this a fantastic & successful year for my business.

My word for '09 is CHANGE. Change is such a scary thing, and I want to be able to welcome it into my life without fear or hesitation. It's only through change that we can grow and experience what life has to offer us. So the more I focus on that word, the more comfortable I'll become with it. Or so the thought goes.
And I'd also really like to change the way the house looks right now. :)

Oh wow what fabulous give-a-ways!! I'm still thinking about my word. Just the other day I thought "oh I need a new word for 2009" and the first word that jumped into my head was "be". 'How odd' I thought and have continued to think about it and why it jumped into my head. I've come up with several reasons and one being because I want to do better and just being in the moment. Hmmmm ... lots to think about!

I chose my word a few weeks ago and have been thinking about art projects that I can use to put it and the passage of Scripture I'm using with it throughout the house.
My word for 2009 is GENTLE - using the definition "free from harshness, sternness or violence" because I am wanting to cultivate a heart that is more tender and merciful toward my husband and children. (not that I'm violent with them, but I am much more harsh than I should be)

My word for 2009 is "Faith".
My family will be going through some pretty big changes in the coming year. The word "faith" is going to be a big part of my life in the coming months as I need to remember to have faith in myself, faith in my loved ones and most importantly faith in God that everything will work out the way it's meant to be.

My word is going to be focus. After what feels like a very scattered and hectic year (new - surprise - baby and lots of other changes) I want to focus on what's important:
focus on family
focus on myself (for a change)
focus on health
focus on happiness
Thanks for all the inspiration in 2008, Ali. Looking forward to a great 2009 reading your blog and seeing your sweet new little one! :)

Hi,
My word for this year is JOURNEY because that's just what's about to happen to me in 2009 - a new baby on the way, renovations to the house, little girl starting school and wee boy starting playgroup. Oh, I'm nearly dizzy already!!

My word for 2009 is going to be determined. I am determined to....
*get fit & healthy
*get several rennovations/repairs completed to our home that we have been putting off
*become more financially sound
*journal daily/weekly whether be by video or handwritten about my everday thoughts, etc. for my children (making sure precious memories are preserved for their future)
*put scrapbooking my memories/pics of my family 1st (which has been pushed aside for quite some time)
* to complete anything else I put on my "Bucket List for 2009"
