One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word is BECOME. There are so many things I want to become. ...a better wife, a better mother, and organized person, a photographer, I could go on.
2009 is the year that I am going to focus on becoming the me that I imagine. I want to fine tune my life and make it into the great life I envision.
Thanks as always, Ali for your inspiration and rest up as you finish off the last month in your pregnancy...so much excitement will be coming your way soon. I'm so very happy for you.

Im still not positive, but Im leaning towards strength - as in physically, mentally, in all areas of my life. 2008 was a rough year for me - I lost my dad - and I found I was a lot stronger than I ever thought I was. Now I want to improve on that in other ways. Physically, mentally, financially, and in my marriage. Looking forward to a stronger New Year!

I'm not 100% certain yet, but the word that keeps running through my mind is Simplify. With the shape that our world is in today, it feels this the best thing to do is to simplify our lives and focus on the basics.

Produce! I need to stop procrastinating and actually do the things I think about or need to do. Last year was hard for me, so my mantra this year is to have a "Happy, healthy, productive year!"

My word came to me last night within a couple of hours of the year turning. My word is
CREATE
It's a word loaded with positivity and choice. Not just the physical creation of projects that bring so much joy but the creation of opportunity and our future. Every act is one of creation in some way and I am going to consciously choose to create.

My word for 2009 is REJOICE. Like you mentioned in your post, it was not a word I was ready for. But it won't go away, so rejoice it is! It came from Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!" I hope it will help me to remember to have joy everyday and focus on the positives in my life and in the world.

I just love your word for 2009. Nurture. It feels so warm & cozy.
For 2009, I think my word would have to be "Focus". With the possibility of my family moving back to the United States in the latter part of 2009 there will be lots of changes and I need to focus on making the most of my time while I'm still living in Europe.

I suspect my word may well be CREATE. If I sit around waiting for the time to be right or for this or that to happen, it won't. So I'm going to CREATE. Create art, create opportunities, create a life I can feel good about, create memories, create time for myself, etc.
It just came to me, and I LIKE IT :D :D :D
Thanks, Ali!

I'm still thinking on mine but it's in-between Acceptance and Strength. Possible both for the new year. I guess we can have two right?
May you have many beautiful baby days of nuturing.

I have been thinking about this for the last couple of weeks. I think my word for this year is going to be "RELATE". It has a lot of meanings, obviously and I think that fits with what I want to accomplish this year. I want to relate, or communicate, better with my children and my husband. I want to relate, or connect, with myself and schedule more "me" time. And I want to relate, or tell, more of our stories. I'll be doing project 365 this year to get in the habit of paying attention & capturing the little day-to-day happenings.

I'm still thinking about my word, but this year I'd like to focus on worrying less and trusting God more. I'd also like to focus a little more on me for the first time since my oldest was born nearly 9 years ago. Thanks, Ali!

I keep coming back to a strange word.
My word is RELEASE. It's meanings...
n.) To relieve from something that confines, burdens, or oppresses, as from pain, trouble, obligation, penalty.
(n.) To let loose again; to set free from restraint, confinement, or servitude; to give liberty to, or to set at liberty; to let go.
(n.) The act of opening the exhaust port to allow the steam to escape.
(v. t.) To lease again; to grant a new lease of; to let back.
(n.) The act of letting loose or freeing, or the state of being let loose or freed; liberation or discharge from restraint of any kind, as from confinement or bondage
The act of letting go is hard for me. I need to work on releasing unrealistic expectations, the desire for everything to be perfect, the feeling of needing to please everyone but myself and I need to release others from my expectations of them that are sometimes unrealistic nor necessary.
Last year, with the adoption of another baby my word got lost and more pressure piled on. This year I hope to enjoy things more and release myself from feeling trapped by image or to-do lists.

Our family has decided to take the "word" challenge together for 2009. We flipped a coin (we had it down to Embrace and Trust) and "TRUST" is our word!
Thanks for all of the inspiration! Ali, you sure embody your 2009 word Nurture!!!
Happy 2009,
Lyn
