One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

One Little Word. What a wonderfully real and inspiring concept. I am really excited to give it a try this year. My word is balance. Not sure what all this will invite, but I do know it will mean good, self-aware, meaningful changes, and I'm excited about that.
Nurture is so beautiful, so full of promise - best wishes for your journey. Happy New Year!

The word I have chosen this year is RELINQUISH. Relinquish old expectations (for myself and others); relinquish unneeded things (possessions and other baggage); and most of all: relinquish that from my life that makes me unhappy/burdened/disappointed/resentful/angry. Life is too short to hold onto things that bring you down.

Hi Ali,
I am still processing what my word means for me. I know it is Choose. So many things in life come as choices and my attitude or outlook are so dependent on the way I choose to react. I want to choose to be at peace with myself amongst many other positive choices I hope to make this next year. Thanks as always for the inspiration.

My words would be Gratitude and Hope.
I have so much to be thankful for but I still have to hold out hope for adopting a baby in 2009. I get so down with not being able to have another baby physically and 2 failed IVF attempts at surrogacy, I want to HOPE for another one to bless our family, but being thankful for what we have already been given!
Thanks and Happy New Year!

okay, i have done this for several years now...had a word impressed on my heart for the coming year...i had NO IDEA that other people did this too!!! This is incredible!!! My word came to me last week...it's AWARENESS...of the simple daily beauty that comes all day, God's goodness, my children and their needs, of nature and all its offerings of rest and peace.

My word is patience. I always feel that I have ten million things to do and not enough time to do them. I always feel the need to rush and get on to the next thing. I want to slow down anjot more of life instead of rushing through it. Thanks for ALL of your inspiration!

Brilliant choice, Ali: "nurture" is a perfect word choice for you. This is my first attempt at this "one word" idea so my word choice is: balance. With four active kids, it is the one thing of which I am in constant need and it's hard to come by! All the best to you and yours this New Year :)

I'm still mulling over the perfect word. I think it may need to be peace, although I've seen lots of others choose that word. I need to find peace to overcome the leftover emotions of trials from last year, and I need to keep peace with me as I go through changes in this new year. It's a crazy life and I tend to way over-think and over-stress stuff.
I need to find peace.

My word is to be LOVE. I know it is common, but I think that sums up what I want out of this year. I want to love others more myself and love evey moment life gives.
