One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Unlike last year, this year's word came easily: Worship. It speaks to me of my ultimate purpose in life and puts everything else in perspective. Creativity, love, giving, all are acts of Worship. I am looking forward to an awesome year ahead as I rediscover the nuances of this...

"JOY"
*because it's true that you can choose your attitude
*because it is a free gift you can give to everyone, daily
*because I believe in the joy of 1-20-2009
*because I am grateful for what I have
*because I tried JOY last year, and I plan on living it this year

I'm not positive yet but I think my word for this year is going to be "encourage". Encourage my husband, children, friends...be a cheerleader to everyone around me. With all the heartache and negative information we see every day, my time will be best used being a positive spirit. Thank you so much for your inspiration. You are such a creative soul and I feel honored to see bits and pieces of your life. Thank you for sharing!

Still working on the word . . but I am leaning toward BEAUTY! Beauty in the home, life, with others. Also, my Dad is an amazing amarillys gardner . . .take a dowel and stake them up when they start to lean! So much easier on the flower. Plus, when the blooms go, you can cut them down and they will bloom again! Happy New Year!

Loved reading your post and your thoughts on the word nurture, Ali. So excited to be starting a new year with my new word - Peace. It seems I'm not alone in my choice :) I just posted on my blog about it, and I loved looking through all the words in your comments.

I've had nurture stuck on a post-it on my cupboard for a while now. I think I'll stick to to. Either that or reconnect.

I've only read a portion of the comments above, so I hope "my" word has not been mentioned too many times. Actually I have two words that I think of as a goal: Joy....Find Joy. I also like the word Acceptance. These are words that deal with my role as a mother of three adult children and my grandchildren...realizing the joy in my and their lives and acceptance of the natural changes that come about as they have developed their own homes and families. I suppose Joy and Acceptance go together in many ways, especially because it is my responsibility to find joy in my acceptance of the life differences in my retirement and renewed joy in the continuing love of my husband of 45 years.
Thanks for sharing yourself with us. I hope you are well...your happiness shines through.

I'm thinking about the word ENJOY. With a new baby coming soon, I just want to enjoy this year as my family and life changes once again. Not to mention this will likely be the last baby I have.

I'm still deciding. I really like Strength, and Cherish. I need strength to complete my recovery but I'm leaning toward Cherish. Cherish each day. Cherish my family, myself, and my God.

My word is "Appreciate". Sometimes in my haste to get things done I forget to stop and appreciate the people, and things around me. This year I want to really appreciate all those things, the things that I'm going to do and the things I've already done. Happy New Year!

I've chosen the word WELLNESS since it embodies the journey I wish to take this year to recovering from my 2007 surgery.

937 comments and counting. That's a lot of words.
I haven't chosen my word yet. It's tough this year. I've thought of "gentle;" I need to be kinder to myself and those around me. I've thought of "emerge;" I need to put myself out there more. Ali's "nuture" fits as well but that feel like I'm copying. I keep looking for a word when I read, browse or whatever. 12/31 and no word. I'll keep thinking and looking.
I also like the idea of adding a creative practice (shoutout to iHanna's blog) this year. It may be drawing or photography but my life would be far more satisfying if I could something more regularly.
Ah well, the hours are counting down. Maybe I'll find that word yet.

I have been struggling to come up with a good word this year. I think I have settled on MOTIVATION. One of my greatest weaknesses is procrastination - so I need something that helps me overcome this in all areas of my life and work this year. Thanks for the "motivation"!

My word for 2009 is SERENE. I tend to worry too much and the only thing that accomplishes is to make me a wreck. So I hope to overcome worry and be SERENE.
