One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I have to admit that this is not original .. I saw it on another blog ... I think it was Molly Irwin's. Anyway ... GO!
Go do the things you want.
Go play with the kids.
Go hug a friend.
Go see the world.
Go try something new.
Go outside.
Go be me!
I saw that someone had chosen the word "GO" last year and haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. That tells me that "go" is the word for me. Now, I am getting off the computer to GO be with my daughters!

Happy New Year Ali. I wish you and your darlings all the very best for the year ahead.
My word for 2009 is 'breathe'. I want to "smile, breathe and go slowly" a bit more in my life. 2008 was frantic. I'm realistic enough to know this year may well be frantic too, but I need to learn to be OK with that. And to breathe. Slowly. Resolutely. Patiently. Peacefully.
Thankyou for being a catalyst for my reflection.
peace to you, Kathryn

My word for 2009 would have to be BREATHE. I have one child going into Grade 3, one starting school, one starting day care and I am going back to work. With all of that, plus extracurricular activities, it's going to be a crazy full on year. I need my word to remind me to BREATHE, to stay calm and focussed on getting everything I need to done without stressing, and when it all gets too much, to stop, to take a deep breath and then to keep going.

I am waffling between 3 words right now: balance, discipline and simplify.

I have chosen a word for the past 3 years and each year the word I've selected has turned out to be perfect. This year I have chosen the word INTENTIONAL. I'd love if you would gather all the words and create a list as you have in the past years. I'm always amazed at all the different words people choose.
note: my favorite shoe brand is Nurture from Dillards. They are so comfortable as well as stylish. Happy New Year.

My word for 2009 is Discipline - "habits and ways of acting that are gotten through practice". I want to focus on being disiplined in many areas of my life - Spiritually - reading the Bible daily; Health - making healthy food choices and daily exercise; Leisure time - making time for myself and my family.

Great word! My word is tranquility. I tend to get overworked and chaotic over mundane everyday downs. I want to focus on "rolling with the punches" and learn to accept all that is thrown my way without fitting over it! Tranquility......won't be easy, but I hope to try hard!

My word last year was "wedding", and I got remarried in May. Actually, my boys like to say that the four of us got married then, and we tried to keep them at the center of the wedding as we do in our everyday life. My word for 2009 is "forward". I hadn't even thought about what the word would be, but I knew immediately. That's the direction I have concentrated my efforts on in 2008, and I hope 2009 brings it to fruition.

I am going to use the word SIMPLIFY for 2009. I'm hoping to SIMPLIFY my home by streamlining the extra "stuff"; SIMPLIFY my scrapbooking to allow more stories to be written and less artsiness; SIMPLIFY my schedule to allow more time for exercise and a new grandbaby that should be arriving in July.
Thanks, Ali, for this wonderful opportunity to "make me think."
And . . . I love the word NURTURE for you. What a great word for someone about to have a new baby girl!

I chose "Creative."
I actually didn't even know about this project until a coworker emailed us all with the link. She is also doing a wonderful bulletin board for the month of January for staff and customers.
I chose "Creative" for the simple fact that life seems to strangle it out of me sometimes.
I write. And embracing my creative side is the only time I really feel free.
Thanks.

Hi Ali-
Seems like a perfect word for you with what is coming!
Very inspiring this word thing. I think I am going to focus on "PLAY"
I just started thinking about this word more this past fall during a tough spot in my life. As a mommy...it is easy to worry about everyone and everything, and try to make everything perfect....but focusing on play is allowing me to let go of the things that just don't matter if they are perfect or not, and taking the time to play and have fun is making me a happier person.
Thanks for the chance for these great goodies!
Aubrey
