One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Hi Ali. I have been a long time readed and truly I am inspired by you. This will be the first year that I choose word and I am mulling it over thoughtfully. Balance seems like a very good choice for me as does health. I will have my decision made before the countdown...
All the best to you and your family in 2009!

My word for 2009 is FOCUS. I have a tendency to jump from one thing to the next and I'd like to enjoy something fully so I'm going to focus instead of jumping.

My word is NOURISH.
1. to sustain with food or nutriment; supply with what is necessary for life, health, and growth.
2. to cherish, foster, keep alive, etc.
First, because I've resolved to cook at home much more this year so my husband and I can have a healthier diet. And second, I want to nourish our new marriage because I hear all the time that the first year is the hardest.

I haven't decided on my word yet, although I am leaning towards a word that will keep me in the moment. I like another reader's suggestion of PAUSE, and may go that way.
Thanks for sharing your all your great thoughts and ideas on your blog! I really enjoying it. Happy new year to you and your family!

breathe. i learned that i often forgot to breathe and become centered throughout the holidays, letting small and great inconveniences get the best of me. i must learn to stop, breathe and put things in the correct context. happy new year to all of you, ali.

My word for 2009 is - UNDERSTANDING. I feel that I have to be more understanding of my kids, husband, even the dog. My kids are only 2 & 3 but of course we think so highly of them we think they can do anything - but they are only 2 & 3! As for my husband - god bless him - he's great but yet again I think of perfection for him and let's face it - who is perfect? I have to take some understanding in all the flaws and I hope in return they can all have a little understanding for me.

I've really loved the one word focus. I haven't totally settled on one for this year yet.
2007 was MOVE.
2008 was NOW.
2009, I want to embrace the phrase "take your time"...so perhaps the word TIME.
