One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Hmm... I've been following your blog for a couple years now, but have never felt the need to choose a word for myself. But this year, I feel the word "possibilities" bubbling to the surface.
POSSIBILITIES. Keeping my mind and heart open to anything that might come my way, and at the same time creating new possibilities to grow. :)

WOW! I am still contemplating my word, for this year. I was tossing my ideas around in my head, and then I came here, and holy smokes, there are some great ideas here, as well!
I have many, many plans for 2009, so my word is hard to choose.
But, the word CALM keeps coming to mind. We shall see, I do have a few more hours to choose!

Well my word for the coming year is "enjoy". There are a lot of things in my life that I want to change and there are things that I want to happen, but for this coming year I'm just going to "enjoy" what I've got and where I am in life!

My one word for 2009: SIMPLICITY
thesaurus.com says: simplicity is the "absence of complication", it is also "clearness" & "easiness"
So many times I make things WAY harder then they should be. I think about things too much, or I look into things WAY too much. This year, I am going to calm myself :) and just be simple. No complications, no reasons to worry... just "to be"

My word for 2009 is "create." Last year was "brave." I was very brave last year. I faced some pretty hard stuff, took some chances in big and small ways, and the really big one: walked out of a marriage that was not working any more. And now I have a great big blank slate ahead of me. And I'm going to create all over it.

My word? Discover. Discover what I want to do with the rest of my life, discover hidden talents, hidden resources, all like has to offer that I have been missing, free activities (we have just moved to Portland,OR)new places to see and do. I want this year to be the one I come out of my shell a bit and discover lots of new things, ideas, thoughts!

What a great idea. I think that my word this year will be SIMPLIFY. I am hoping this will lead me in a new direction in all areas of my life. I am hoping to focus on what is really important in my life and let the other stuff go. This includes paring down the amount of clutter and unnecessary "stuff" in my house.

I think my word for the year will be slow. Not in the turtle-like way :-) My dad always used to tell me "to take it slow" because I was accident prone. But I think it could apply better to moving slowly and paying more attention to small things.

My word for 2009 is AWAKE...
AWAKE to the beauty around me in my everyday life,
AWAKE to the possibilities and blessings each day brings,
AWAKE to each moment instead of pushing through my lists and tasks only to get to the end and discover that I missed out on some wonderful things.
Happy New Year, Ali!

My word is PREVAIL. 2008 was such a hard year for me and my family and we are going to make 2009 totally different and successful. We are both starting new businesses and so this is why prevail is so important. Happy New Year to you and yours!

My word is faith... we will all need some in the coming year. Faith to believe that our economy will turn upwards without taking cowardly shortcuts, that we as a nation will prevail over those who would do us harm, that we will make the tough (right) choices with our policies and our leaders, and that God still has His hand on us even though many Americans have turned away from Him. These are the most important challenges of 2009. I still have a lot of faith in the greatness of Americans as individuals.

RESPONSIBILITY. It seems to be the theme for 2009. We all need to take a little bit more...everyone will be better off. That's the ultimate way to care for each other.

i think that my word for 2009 will be faith.
i would like to remember to have faith that life is unfolding just as it should, to not push and shove for what i think should be but to be happy and present in this moment with what is before me and to trust that what is meant for me in my life can not be un-meant for me.
happy new year!
