One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

What a great idea to have a 'word' for the year...mine is: BLESSED - I want to constantly remind myself of how wonderfully God has blessed me!!
I would love to win - beautiful things! :)

After being in constant "movement" over the past decade - battling breast cancer twice (twelve and five years ago); infertility; seeing an international adoption come to fruition with the blessing of a son (eight years ago); moving 5 times; being a full-time mother and wife and now moving back into working in middle school education as a counselor of at-risk students for the past two years --- there is no doubt that my word for 2009 is REST. I am going to relearn how to rest and make true rest a priority this year - so I can be my best self and in turn be there to enjoy all the blessings I have in my life. Happy New Year! Nurture yourself first!

I'm not completely sure yet but I think my word will be "ADJUST"...lot of changes in my home coming up this year and I will need to change some gears to keep up.
Happy New Year!

Still deciding - but the frontrunners at the moment are 'appreciate' and 'discover'.
Lots of exciting things on the horizon, including a radical ethical shopping experiment - a year of buying only local, fair trade or recycled things. Looking forward to the challenge of that.
Happy new year, everyone! :)

My word for the year is going to be commit, to carry into action deliberately, to pledge or assign to some particular course or use, to obligate or pledge oneself. That is what I need to do more of this year. I always try to but rarely follow through.

I love picking my word! I look foward to it every year! I take each word with me into the next year and continue to use it in my year. I try very hard to pick a word that will always have meaning and be necessary in my life and my families life.
In 2007 it was Simplify!
In 2008 it was Create!
and in 2009 it will be SPARKLE!
Sparkle: to be brilliant, lively, or vivacious.
Who couldn't be a little more lively or vivacious or brilliant, especially in such trying times!
Here's to bringing a lil' sparkle into the world!

My word for 2009 is ENJOY.
As in enjoying the ride, enjoying the process. I want to feel the JOY in my real life, moment by moment, day by day. It's time to focus on feeling good.

Mine will either be "discover" or "joy". I'm not sure which yet...

Hi Ali,
There are so many posts to this Blog! Wow! You probably won't make it to mine, there are so many, but I'm going to share my word for the year anyhow. :-) After much thought and struggle, I decided my word for 2009 is going to be DISCOVER or DISCOVERY. I want 2009 to be a year of discovery about myself, my family and maybe even the world around me. Over the past few months, I have realized I have become a bit closed off from most everything and I don't want to be like that anymore, yet I'm not sure how to be anything else. So, 2009 is going to be a year of discovery for me of everything around me.
I hope you understand what I mean. Anyhow, I hope you and your family have a very happy and safe New Year! Enjoy.

Hi Ali, I love this. I'm still working on my word for the year. I am hopeful that this is the year I find a partner, family, and buy a home. So many words pop into my head when I think about these wishes. I'm going to spend sometime today reflecting on these wishes and see which word resonates the most. Thank you for these give-aways! love, love them.

My word is endure. I just turned 40 and my husband passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 29th. He was 39. I have two children...it has been heartbreaking. My pastor said it best to me when he asked how I was doing and I said I am getting by moment by moment and focusing on the children as much as possible. He looked and me and kindly told me that what I was doing was/is enduring. He is right.
en⋅dure - to continue to exist; last, To carry on through, despite hardships.
That is my word without question.

Well, I kicked around a lot of words I was considering...several fit, but I was thinking over my past year's goals, and my new ones for this year, and I realized that the ones I didn't reach were because of fear. Fear I would fail, fear of a lack of knowledge, fear of change. So...my word for this year is COURAGE. I want to have courage to pursue my goals, courage to speak up, speak out, courage to be myself.
With a lot of prayer, I can do it!

My word is 'express'...to say, show, communicate how I am felling in the moment. I love the thought of having one word, my word. Thanks for this! Happy New Year! :-)

My word for 2009 is PEACE. It is an all-encompassing word for me. Peace within myself, peace in interactions with my kids, peace with those I do not even know. It's a daily struggle, but one I believe that's worth it!
