One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Hi Ali. My word for 2009 is PROGRESS. I have many areas of my life that I need to make progress with (health, faith, work, scrapbooking...) and I think if I have this reminder it will help me move forward. Thanks for offering the great giveaways to help us remember. Best wishes to you and your family in the new year.

Reduce. I need to reduce myself by about 10 pounds, and I need to reduce the clutter and "stuff" in my surroundings.

After much deliberation, I settled on mindfulness - it even seems to encompass a couple of the other words I was thinking about. I particularly want to be mindful of others needs and my own motivations.

I'm not sure about the word for 2009...
Peace worked for me in 2008 and I'm sorry to see it go. I wore a diamond peace sign around my neck all year. It started many meaningful conversations about Peace with so many people that I will miss it.
People were taken aback when they would compliment me and I would say thank you...
it's "my word" for the year. I started some people thinking more seriously about their journey...hey...maybe journey will be 2009 for me. I think I just worked it out!
Thanks Ali. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family.

It's a toss up for me between Faith and Courage. DH and I moved from Seattle to the Midwest 4 years ago, and it's been a tumultuous time here with all that has been happening with the auto industry to say the least. We're also going to be moving forward with our plans for adoption, so will most likely become first time parents this year. So, I see courage to face the challenges and joys ahead and faith that God will bring us through.

My word for 2009 is "Accept." It is a reminder to me to accept my work for what it is and not to compare my work/art to others. It also serves as a reminder to accept things as they are and not fret or worry about them.
Thanks for the chance to share my word and for the chance to enter the giveaways.

My word is simplify. I do too much, buy too much and spend too much time doing things that don't really matter to me. I'm going to try and simplify and focus on those things that bring me peace and happiness.

My word is incomparable. It seems most of my stress and sadness comes when I compare my life/decisions/home/appearance/success to that of another. So I will recognize that my life is my own and not to be compared to another. My life is incomparable.

My word for 2009 will be GIVE. I am in my 60's and have been given so much over the years - health, a wonderful job, family who are healthy and employed, a new grandchild in the coming months, friends, love, security, and on and on. So I determine to give to others this next year - my time, my talents and my resources. And to do it from my heart and not for any personal gain.

I think mine should be 'Let Go'
Let go that thinks aren't going to be perfect, I can't be perfect, I can't get Everything done that I want to - but let it go and do what I can! And do that well!
Congrats on the coming baby!
