One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Happy New Year!
I'm still up in the air on my word. The past two years I've had "Be" and then "Grow".
I'm going to have a glass of bubbly with my DH and finalize my choice! :)

The first word that comes to my mind for 2009 is TRUST...as in trusting my inner instincts, trusting my 17 yr. old daughter who will be off to college in the fall, trust that God will guide me in to this new and challenging year. But most of all, TRUST in self.

FOCUS
I know I will be very busy this coming year in school, work, and family, plus trying to keep myself sane through all of it. I think that if I focus on each task individually, and focus on the things that are important to me, especially my family, then I'll be able to make it through the year more calmly.

My word this year is ACTION. My mind is always filled with ideas...ideas for my home, my paper projects, my kids, my family, myself...and I can't seem to really do much of anything. I almost feel bogged down by all of these thoughts and the excitement and anticipation they hold. So now it's time for ACTION...take action with my health, with my creativity, with my relationships, and with my life. ACTION ACTION WE WANT ACTION...ACT clap clap clap ION. OK, didn't mean to get all cheerleader on you all. I'm off to prepare to take action! :)

My word is HOPE, and there's some special synchronicity to my selection. When our daughter was baptized 17 years ago, the priest asked each couple to state what they asked of the church. We said 'hope.' About a year ago, I bought a beautiful (simple) necklace with proceeds going to support MS research - the necklace says 'hope.' For Christmas this year, my daughter made a beautiful mosaic of the word HOPE as my gift. So when it came time to select my word, all of the sudden it seems crystal clear. As our daughter prepares to graduate from high school and head off to college, I hope for many things. And to use my word from 2008, I hope for peace - in our world, and in our hearts.
Thanks, Ali, for inspiring us!! Happy New Year!

DEFINE. I'm going through a bit of a transition period. Trying to figure out and DEFINE my roles, as a wife, a friend, a daughter, and hopefully "mom" within the next year or so.
Ali, your blog always inspires me. I love reading about your daily trials and tribulations, while keeping up to date with your family. So looking forward to you being a mother again. And following along as Simon learns to define his new role! What a swewet boy he is. Thank you for sharing yourself with all of us out here!!

After thinking for awhile, I've decided for 2009 to live my life with INTENTION. I'm going to be intentional with what I put into my body, what I do with my body, how I spend and save our money, how I use my time, and with what comes into our home. I'll craft with intention. I'll act on all my good intentions I've had for years and most importantly I'm going to Love intentionally.

My word this year I think will be "Appreciate" - I have been blessed with so many things that I really need to stop and think about how I appreciate all of these things...
Thanks Ali for reminding me to d this and really sit and think about it.

I started with accomplish, strive and capture. But I think I am leaning toward CAPTURE.
I want to expand my photography skills, to try to start sharing and offering my passion with others.
Capture the moment.
Capture the shot.
Capture the memory.
Stop dreaming of "being" a photographer and Capture the dream and make it reality.
Stop letting things stop me and Capture my purpose.
