One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

I have been a participant in the One Word concept for one year now. Last years work of Simplify will continue to serve it's purpose. I have not committed as much as I would have liked to in totally getting involved with it. I have been toying with keeping the same word again..it could use some more time with it. But as I read you blog I have decided on a new word for 2009. Choices....this makes so much sense. I need to work on choices that are right for me and my family and my business. Thinking of everyone/think invovled. Choices it is. I have committed! Thanks for continuing to be an inspiration!

My word for 2009 will be LOVE. I will LOVE every moment, LOVE everyone, LOVE the good and the bad. I'm always reminded by this one quote from Chris that you wrote a while ago:
“Life is complicated. Life is messy. It always has been. It always will be. The good news is that we can chose to accept what is; to surrender our egos; to let go of the impulse to control the uncontrollable. When in doubt we can chose to err on the side of love.”
I've always loved that and often remembered it during times of craziness in my life. So LOVE and happiness to all of you. May your new year be filled with love.

As I have been thinking... and thinking about my word over the past month or so I've had a hard time. The past couple of years it was easier, for some reason I had been at a loss this year until last week. I woke up early one morning and started reviewing this past year. One word popped out at me & stuck. CHANGE. At first I wasn't digging it and started trying to think of other words quickly to realize it really was the perfect word for me.
So, I'll take my word for the year from President Elect Obama... CHANGE I can believe in!
I pray that I will have the strength & courage I need this year to adapt to the CHANGE I will make in my life & the CHANGE that will be given to me.

My word for the year is going to be truth. I want to be true to myself about what it is that is really important to me and and set others expectations accordingly!
I want to stop putting stress on myself that is completely unnecessary!
Thanks!

My word for the year is SHINE...My dad used to wake me up every morning with the words, "Rise and shine!" and I would like the word SHINE to be my word this year to remind me to do my best in everything I do, not just show-up. I wake my boys up with that saying in the mornings now and I need to live that saying. Happy New Year everyone! Tomorrow morning make sure you "Rise and Shine!"

My word for 2009 is FAITH. Faith that 2009 will be a better year than 2008 has turned out to be. Faith that the small business I work for will get more work in 2009 so I have a job to go back to (I was laid off). Faith in myself and my abilities. Faith in my fellow man and above all faith in God.

My word for the year is going to be rest. This quote from the book "Captivating" by John and Staci Eldrige has shown me how important it is for me to be at rest and to allow others who I am in relationship with to rest. "A WOMAN OF TRUE BEAUTY IS A WOMAN WHO IN THE DEPTHS OF HER SOUL IS AT REST, TRUSTING GOD BECAUSE SHE HAS COME TO KNOW HIM TO BE WORTHY OF HER TRUST. SHE EXUDES A SENSE OF CALM, A SENSE OF REST, AND INVITES THOSE AROUND HER TO REST AS WELL."

My word came to me after reading someone else's blog... she posted a quote from Albert Einstein... "Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will get you anywhere."
This year, my imagination has been a bit stifled due to other life "issues". For the new year, I want to make sure that imagination gets back into my life.

My word for the year is TIME. Having retired this year, I have become even more aware of time and how I spend it productively and purposefully. I want to make sure that I spend time with those who are important in my life, that I spend time taking care of myself, and that I spend time doing the things that fulfill me.

I have not chosen a word quite yet although I'm thinking about FOCUS. I need to focus on getting my home under control (organized! especially the mounds of scrapbooking supplies I have). I'd also like to focus on my health - eating healthier, exercising and taking care of me. Thanks for the opportunity for a cool giveaway. Happy New Year!

so many good words for the year. so many things that i want for this upcoming year. i'm also having a second baby in may. i think my word is GREEN. i've been spending a majority of my concious time trying to figure out ways to become more "Green" the past few months, and its something that I want to continue to do in the new year. Trying cloth diapers, recycling even more, using lights less, etc.
Great idea Ali- Happy New Year!

My word is "LIVE" because sometimes I get so caught up in worrying and stressing and thinking about the future that I forget to really live in the moment, "live in the along," so to speak (quote from "Speech to the Young" by Gwendolyn Brooks).
Happy New Year!

my word is Peace.
Not *just* the Peace that I've been trying to promote for a number of years now, but internal Peace.
Peace within myself arrived at by acceptance of me, of my achievements and failures, of everything I do and everything I don't do.
Happy new year to you and your family, here and still coming. It's a hot one already, here in Brisbane!
