One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

Hi, Happy New Year. My word for 2009 is ME. Sounds selfish? But I need it. I need to start listening to my inner voice that comes from God and my conscience. I need to stop hearing all the external voices of criticism, advice and opinions, and start nurturing my soul.

I've always loved this post each year Ali....
{ SELF }
My word is SELF. I don't intend it to mean self-ish, just that I want this year to be about me and what I need to do to feel good again.
It's about getting my health back to the optimum after the cancer, getting my degree finished, and doing some things for myself that I might not otherwise make the time to do - I've outlined this on my blog, but things like joining the local camera club, and going to learn to speak Italian with my Dad - just fun things that reinvigorate the soul.

My word would have to be "patience". I feel I lack patience with my children, husband, and mother. This year my dad died suddenly. I have it brought to my immediate attention that life is short. My patience should be long.

My word is gratitude. I want have a spirit of gratitude for all that I have and every circumstance that comes my way. My word for 2008 was optimism and looking back I can see a change in attitude that's taken place over the next year.
Thanks for letting us share. May this year be a wonderful year for you and your family with your new baby and all the changes that brings.

The word I have chosen is PRESENT. It seems that so often I am just bubbling with all the things that need to be done and the things I want to do. Bubbling, bubbling. It makes it hard to really grasp onto any one thing and really give it my undivided attention. Unfortunately, it spills over into my relationships and I feel it's unfair to my children, and myself, that when I'm with them my mind is often only half way there with the other half thinking about what I could be getting done. I just want to be full PRESENT no matter what I am doing. I don't want to live my life just getting from point A to point B without really experiencing the trip. I think PRESENT will work perfectly.

I have had my word picked out for a couple of months now: FAITH. It is something that I really need to work on. Faith that my illness will lessen. Faith that I can make a career out of my artistic abilities. Faith that I can be a better person for myself & my family. Faith that the world will be better in 2009.

Reach. My word is reach - reach for the stars, reach for what is freightening me and push forward, reach for the help from my family and not try to do everything alone, reach for what is there just beyond my grasp - hoping to have a much better year in 2009, it's been a tough 2008. Reach.

I have been thinking on this challenge for the last month or so (I always look forward to the "One Little Word"--and I have done it all three years now!) and have decided I really need two words: Joy and Simplicity. It is a horrible place to be when you must admit you need to consciously work on joy, but I NEED more of it in my life and therefore know that I must work for it. The simplicity is a word that has been screaming in the back of my mind for years, begging for me to pay it attention. This year, I plan to listen *grin* Thank you again, Ali for this great challenge...and good luck with that coming baby!

The word is still gelling, but I really think that it will be REACH. I tend to stay in my comfort zones and I need to reach for many things and out to many people.

Hi Ali- My word for this year is simply change. I have so much that I need to change in 2009. I need to change the way I eat and the lack of excercise in my life. I would also like to change the way I talk by using less profanity. These are my three major goals this year. Last year I picked the word calmness and I have felt calmer in the last year, so I am hoping to have good results with my word this year. Thank you for the time you take writing this blog. I love to check in and be inspired by you. Happy New Year to you and your family.- Star

BALANCE is my word for 2009. I tend to throw myself wholeheartedly into one or two areas of my life while neglecting the rest. I need to BALANCE everything--my work, my relationships, my health, my faith, my art.
This is my first time joining you on this word journey. I'm looking forward to it.

My word of the year is "GROW". I want to 'grow' and become a more Godly wife, mother, and a better person in general. I would also like to 'grow' in my creative avenues.
Thank you so much for your inspiration.
