One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways
Tags:I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.
My word is nurture.
For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.
There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.
I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.
There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.
The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."
Also from that same newsletter:
I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.
To celebrate the new year I have three very special giveaways - all directly related to this project. Two beautiful pieces of jewelry and one piece of art to celebrate your word.

My word(s) for '09 is "be okay". I immediately picked this word when my family found out that my mom was cancer free the day after Christmas. Turly the best gift of all! I want to remember that God is in control and things will "be okay" no matter what life may throw at us. I am also going back to school in the summer or fall of '09 to get my masters degree in education, so I have to remind myself that I can jump back into school mode after 6 years. Things will "be okay" no matter how crazy or hectic it may get with everything else packed into my busy schedule. God will not give us more than we can handle.

My word is Fire (Financially Independent Retire Early!) But it also signifies the intensity I want to have for my relationships (God, family & friends) and my work.

For me, my word is EMBRACE. Embrace those moments that so quickly pass by us. Embrace our little ones who grow so quickly. Embrace the fragility of life and live in its moment. Embrace my family, friends, and dear husbands who works so very hard to provide a wonderful home for his family whom he loves so much. Embrace.

Hi, Ali!
I think my word for 2009 would have to be CHANGE. There are so many things in my life that need to be changed, and for many, many years, I've searched for the courage to make them, yet always came up short. I've listened to and read so many others' stories about how they've turned their lives around, how they're living their dreams, but I never seem to be able to put their advice into practice. For too many years, the word has been RUT. The only thing I've learned is that I can dream all I want, but without action, there is no CHANGE. (And I suppose we can throw the word COURAGE into the mix, too. It takes courage to change).
Bright blessings to you and yours in 2009!
Shirl S.

My word is "remember." I recently lost both of my parents and inherited family items of several generations on both sides--photos, memorabilia, dishes and decorative items, jewelry, WW 1 and WW 2 items, and on and on. I just have 2 elderly aunts who can help me "tell the story" and in some cases identify items. Remembering will not only be good grief work, but hopefully it will also bring on some very loving creativity that can be shared with my younger brothers, children, and grandchildren--scrapbooks, photo projects, art journals, writing, and even a little geneology.

There are so many words that come to mind. However, the one that I really need to embrace is BALANCE. Like so many moms, I have a hard time balancing my family's need with my own. I am hoping having a focus of a single words instead of a bunch of resolutions will help me stay on track.

I've participated in the one word challenge for the last two years. This year--the word is harder to choose. My family and I are recovering from the devastating loss of our home to a fire in November. We are all safe and unharmed, but we lost nearly everything. We are living with my parents as we begin the process of starting over and rebuilding. My word will have something to do with this process, I'm sure. I'm trying to find my way through this period. My faith has kept me going when things seem almost hopeless. I want to find a way to document this journey, but haven't quite found it. Last year, my word was Believe; this year. . . . I don't know yet. I will do some brainstorming to come up with those words.

Hey Ali,
So good to see you today at the store (wink!)
It was a challenge to come up with just one word this year...but I've decided on "present" because I want to *be present, *give presents and *look at life for the wonderful present it is. It seems to be the perfect word to interpret everything I want to make happen this year!

I believe I will choose "STOP" as my word for 2009. Stop and appreciate my family more, stop and enjoy the simple things in life, stop and be content and just love my life the way it is.
Happy New Year! And Congrats on the new, soon to be arriving, baby Edwards!

Hi Ali
My word for the year is transformation... this word just fits like a glove - my husband and I have just started renovating our new property and I am looking forward to the transformation of our home, we have just had a little baby boy a couple of months ago and I am looking forward to his transformation over the coming year, I am very much looking forward to the transformation of myself physically (getting back in shape after bubba) and spiritually (always moving forward in my relationship with God), I am looking forward to the transformation of my little girl who starts preschool this year as I know she will change as she starts this new phase... there are just so many things in my life at the moment that this word is appropriate for and it is great to have this project to help keep me focused on my goals and on all the little changes that occur around us that we can sometimes miss in the bigger picture.
