Celebrating Simon.
Tags:We are all wiped out tonight after a really fun, loud, and chocolate-filled birthday celebration. My feet are definitely tired.
Yep, cake (above) and cupcakes.
Birthdays are cool.
And I love this one:
Today after school Simon and I will embark on putting together a Star Wars lego ship. Wish me luck. He was bummed that it was not happening after the party so we had a little chat about having something to look forward to on the day after your birthday.
He also says thank you to all of you who left well-wishes for him yesterday. That was really special and cool.
Seven is going to be a good year.
And speaking of things that are good & fun, a tour of Simon's updated bedroom was featured on Ohdeedoh yesterday (click this link for information about stuff in the room). In all reality the nesting has been going on around here for the last few months.
The planet mobile is an old one from Pottery Barn Kids. I found this one on ebay a few years back.

Good luck with the Star Wars Lego Ship. My son just turned 6 and got one that had 232 pieces. That thing took me over two hours to put together and constant questions of "Is it done yet?" and "Mom, YOU CAN'T TAKE A BREAK!" when I was so crazy as to try to get up and go to the bathroom. In the end, it was worth it. I will be thinking of you today as I am ignoring the other lego contraption waiting to be put toghether.

Question for you: After Christmas and Simon's birthday, how do you manage to re-organize his toy situation? My kids got so much for Christmas that I don't know what to do with it. They very much need the toys to be in separate containers so that they can take one out, play with it, and clean up easily. For this reason, I try to stick to the same sorts of toys when buying them presents (i.e. more Thomas trains for my son or more kitchen play items for my daughter). How do you streamline and keep his things so organized?

Nicole - I am definitely a container fan as well (you can see that in the baskets around the room). Before the holidays I went through and moved out a bunch of toys that he had outgrown. Some of them are stored away for the baby and others were donated to Goodwill. We are also in buy less mode - less at the holidays, less for birthdays, etc. I do go through his room often to remove things he has lost interest in or are just "junk" and try not to bring more of that in the space :). It is an ongoing thing.

Love it, love it! I spotted the Obama photo on the wall. I thought my moments of bursting into tears ended yesterday after the first official photo of the president at his desk was shown on TV. No, apparently I had one more in me. Seeing that photo on Simon's wall made me swell up with joy. And well up ... yet again.

Happy Birthday Simon!
My son is just 8 and Mommy misses 7 even though 8 is fun too. Happy day!
... I think my favorite part of this whole post is your title "Celebrating Simon"--perfect for my upcoming daughter's birthday page (Celebrating Shelby). =)

My son (who will turn 7 at the end of May) is a lego FANATIC!! Between parents, Santa, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles he recieved 14 sets for Christmas. It was all he asked for. Add a bout of pneumonia after the holidays and it's all we've done around here! Legos are so cool! I love building them with him. Much better than playing Star Wars - which of course are his favorite Lego sets!!
I'm glad he (and it seems you and the rest of the family) had a wonderful birthday! Enjoy the time you have with him, once the little one comes along you feel pulled (I also have an 18 month old dgt).
