Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Hmmm...I have to think about this one for a minute. There are lots of things I'm "ok" at, but they are not superpowers.
I think my superpower is that I am good at evaluating both sides of a situation and helping my friends and family seek out the middle ground. Things to me are never black and white and I think I'm pretty good at sharing that mindset with others when they need it the most.
Thanks for pointing us in Andrea's direction!

I have super hair!!! I really like my hair and consider it a super power... On a serious note, I'd say strength. The power to go on no matter what... And w/ grace and finesse and laughter. Yep, that's it. All public and everything. Thanks Ali!

My superpower is the way I am able to take care of other people's children. I teach Kindergarten and Mom's and Dad's trust me with their greatest love & joy, thier children. I love my job and I think that it takes someone with a lot of love and patience to teach young children to love learning. That's my superpower.

You are so right! The Bible says our words have the power of life and death....pretty powerful stuff when you think of all the stuff we say to our friends and family during the course of a day. Hopefully....there's more "life" coming out of my mouth today! I guess my superpower would be encouraging my kids to be the best they can be!

I guess that my superhero quality is that I maintain an honest, open relationship with my daughters...ages 11,9 and 6. We have been as close as can be since I was diagnosed with cancer four years ago...that event opened a window of opportunity that I otherwise might not have opened. I was raised in a home where open, honest life discussions didn't happen...I have awesome parents, they just weren't open. The diagnosis forced me to open up and be completely free and truthful with my girls about what was happening and still holds true and strong today as my oldest enters her pre-teen years. We have had several "talks" about what it means to become a young lady and our relationship is stronger because of it. Do I think I am a superhero for it? Nah, but my girls do, and that is the part of it that truly rocks.

Being a mom of three kids ages 13, 4, and 1 makes me a superhero because each and every day, I rely on my super powers to get through the day : )

My superpower is hard to explain in one word.
You see,I teach musical theatre, but it's more than that. My superpower involves seeing a group of kids or individual kids (private lessons) once a week, and helping them work through whatever else happens so that when they walk out the door of my studio, they are REFRESHED, RENEWED, HAPPY, and much more CONFIDENT about facing everything they have coming in the next week. It may just be singing, dancing, and acting together, but the time I spend with my kiddos helps them be better prepared for the time ahead and brings them joy.
So I guess my superpower is CONTENTMENT and CONFIDENCE giving.

i would say i'm good at writing, observing, and analyzing social and psychological issues ... also, i feel that i'm very good at generating new ideas (topics) for research and writing, such ideas come to me naturally without making any conscious effort.
apart from that i feel that i'm very good in understanding myself. i have a lot of self-awareness. i know very well about my strengths and weaknesses, and i'm very much clear about my goals in life.
Writing and leading. And leading groups by writing. Writing to me is like breathing, I don't have to think about it, or concentrate on it, or edit it, it comes as it is. With leading, I have an inbuilt sense of fair, and I am fearless to enforce what is fair against people who others may fear.
Apparently I'm quite good at designing clothes as well, this would be more the type as you described, something you're unaware of until someone told you what you're doing exactly.

I would say that my superpower is listening to others. I really try to be a good listener to my husband, kids, and friends. Thanks for making me think about what I am good at. Love the necklaces!

Maybe my superpower is storytelling. I can't remember what I had for dinner last night, but I can remember events from high school, GRADE school, vacations, daily walks. . . *if* there's a story involved. And my stories get better with time. :)

Holly Cow! It is amazing to see so many people say positive things about themselves. It is hard to do that, I would say I am a superhero at making tasty sandwiches. It is silly but it is a little something I am proud of :)

love all the comments today.
i am super at...getting along with just about anyone: the schoolbus driver, my best friend since kindergarten, the person waiting behind me in a very long line at the grocery store (even the one who suggested that sarah palin is a role model for working mothers everywhere).
not sure what good it does me overall, but i'm still thankful for it!
