Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Numbers are my thing. They stick in my head like glue. Math was my best subject. So now that my husband and I own 2 business' and I run all the books for those as well as manage our household income.. it can be overwhelming, but I know I'm good at it. On top of all that I have 2 kiddos and one on the way (June '09) so I juggle alot and stay sane! Pretty super!

Like many women, I am certainly not used to thinking of myself as possessing superhero traits. But I guess I could say that I work really hard every day to be a positive, cheerful, encouraging mom to my amazing teen daughter while battling PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).
Thanks for the opportunity Ali, and best wishes during the final days of your pregnancy !

Hi Ali! Love your blog. I consider myself more of a follower than a leader, but in the past year or so, I've discovered I can be a leader, even if it's for littler things, at least in my mind. I've become a supervisor at work, leading a team of 10, I am currently leading a large card-making project for our ladies group at church, and I'm heading up a spaghetti dinner at my kids' school as a fundraiser. Thanks to lots of support, awesome volunteers, and some organization, most anything is possible!

At work I'm a superhero becuase I "fix" stuff, but I'm paid to do it - my passion is being a superhero Mom. My son says I'm a superhero because I made the best eggs (I laughed because I don't remember the last time I made eggs)!

I am awesome at working full time - out of town 3 to 4 days a week, and then also having some time on that one work day at home to volunteer at my kids school.

a real challenge--I've been thinking about this, thanks to Brene Brown's recent post.
My superpowers maybe my curiosity and listening ability--I am sincerely interested in other people and their ideas.

I'd like to think that I'm super at capturing a dog's personality when I create my pet portraits.
I also have moments of clairvoyance, which used to freak me out but I've become comfortable with it; I consider it a gift.

I have a great sense of humor and mostly use it to put people at ease, even though most of the time I am uneasy myself and even though I really am an introvert. I hate seeing other people be uncomfortable!

my superhero power is that I make people happy. I always have a smile on my face and I'm always ready to greet you. It's free and it makes people feel good so why not make someone smile. BTW, her jewelry is beautiful and wouldn't mind adding one to my collection of jewelry.

I can plan the perfect party. I love coming up with the perfect menu and decor and thinking of all of the little details to make it a special event for everyone. I drive my husband crazy in the planning phase, but he loves it when everyone is over having a fun time!

I have my children (7-18 years old) convinced that my superpower is the ability to always know when they are not telling the truth. (The secret of my superpower is knowing their faces - which I have gazed upon since they were born - all of my children are such bad and self-conscious fibbers that they smile, and I know.)
Honestly, my real superpower is love. I don't know how I'd get through the day without the love of my friends and family.
Peace. Susan

My superpower is that I can dress 2 girls, with hair done, brushed teeth, shoes + socks, breakfast (cooked, not pre-packaged), unload dishwasher, change laundry, fold a load, wake 10 year old and "do" her hair (where she actually likes it), pack 2 lunches, pack dance clothes, check math homework, clean kitchen, load girls - all in 45 minutes. oh yeah, with a good attitude. How? you ask. I'm a supermom and love my job (most days)

It took a long time to nurture my superpower! I am a magic-maker! A solver-of-problems, an outside-the-box thinker, and a cut-to-the-bottom-line fixer. I like to call it "finding the rabbit," alluding to the "watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat."
Ali, I love your blog and how you live your life. Kudos!
