Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero
Tags:Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]
Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.
I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.
Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).
Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.
To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.
Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

My superhero power is organization. I love to organize things and it is truly rewarding (and calming/centering) for me!
These necklaces are fabulous!

My superpower is optimism... it is so much easier to go through life with a "glass half full" approach!

my superhero is my sister. i am not quite sure where i would be without her. she inspired me to continue my education and was there for me all through those years. she inspired me to push myself to land a great internship. she inspired me to apply for the impossible jobs. and she inspired me that motherhood wasn't too much for me to handle. she has helped make my life such an adventure. i love her and adore her and would do nothing less for her.
what a great topic. thanks!!

My superpower is finding the humor in any situation, no matter how dire it may. A good laugh makes even the worst days feel bearable. (This is actually what I wrote my college application essay on!)

I'm a superhero cookie baker. I don't make them as often as I'd like, mainly because I'm the one that scarfs most of them down!

Hi Ali:
Lovely necklace!
I guess I would say my superpower is resilience. "Bounce-back Woman!" Seems no matter what happens I bounce back. I can make do with or orchestrate change to get my family where we need to be.

Though I don't think I have any superpowers, my husband would say that I do. He volunteered one week of vacation to "do my job" (sahm) so I could have some quiet time. He was amazed at all I do to keep our four kids (at three different schools) at the right place at the right time. He says I'm his superhero that does it all, does it right, and does it all the time! (He travels for work about 35-40 weeks a year.) Thanks for sharing Andrea's website, I love it!

Honestly, there are things I love to do, but always looking to improve. So I'll tell you what my husband and kids say. They applaud my cooking and baking quite a bit. They better, as I spend a good part of my day in the kitchen!

I'm good at dealing with life's surprises by always looking for small blessings. DH laid off for a few days, ok now I don't have to worry about him traveling on bad roads. DS has spina bifida and a seizure disorder, ok he's a happy, well-adjusted little guy. I can deal with things pretty well.

Since I was a little girl I've loved superheros...all kinds of superheros. My kids laugh at me because I am more into superheroes than they are. I like the idea of someone using their gifts to help humanity. I am a nurse and work with superheros everyday. I see courage and strength in those around me and I am inspired to find my own sueperhero. I have long been a fan of Andrea's and find encouragement and strenth in her words.

Ali,
Thank you for this opportunity! I have loved Andrea's site for years, and have always admired her jewelry (although I've not yet purchased a necklace). My superpower is patience. My husband says I am patient to a fault, but it sure comes in handy most of the time.
I love your site. You are an inspiration to so many, just like Andrea!

My superpower? I am very good at creating order. Never thought about it as a "superpower" but I like how I feel when I say it like that. My DS(4) will be humored when I tell him I have superpowers. Happy gestating Ali!

Thank you for introducing us to this super woman. I love her skills!
My strength is my poetry. I publish it on my blog sometimes--still trying to get comfortable sharing it. I write children's poems.

My superpower - always prepared - and I was not ever a Girl Scout! I am not spontaneous, I am a planner and thus I am prepared for most any event or extenuating circumstances.
Love the necklaces.

I have a really good sense of direction. I may not know exactly where I am at all times, but more often than not, I can navigate myself back to a road or area that I'm familiar with and continue on our way. No stops at the gas station asking for directions when you drive with me!

I love those necklaces!
My super power? Well, my 8yo son would say that I have the power of ice -- he's created a whole other imaginative world ("the Crakers") in his head where each of us have special powers. My husband has the power of fire. Mine is ice. :)
In real life . . . my super power is "get-up-and-at-'em". Every morning I always wake up way before the kids and get all the way ready so I am prepared to greet the day. 5:35am comes very early, but I've become pretty super at keeping up that habit.
