Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Thank you for always inspiring me Ali. I recently lost my job so a big leap for me is asserting myself in job hunting...I am very introverted. I try to do it in little leaps every day. More enjoyable little leaps have been trying out new recipes for more tasteful dinners. A really fun leap would be to challenge myself with all the wonderful product in the scrapbook kit from the giveaway!

Thanks for sharing about courage with me today. I am trying to find the courage to survive our latest leap. My DH got a new job Dec. 15th, so with 10 days until Christmas we packed up and moved from TX to CA. We had to put our home on the market in the worst time and now I find myself living in less than half the size of my old house. My favorite part of our big leap... my courage to get through it left me with a beautiful view of the ocean any day of the week! I'm off to the beach :-)

My most recent act of courage I would say is standing behind my boss and other people at work that I belived in. In the end I did end up getting fired but it was the best thing I could have done for the people I belived in and trusted. I did move on and get a different job that is even better.

My big leap will be this summer when we move over 800 miles from our home here in Florida. We will be having to find a high school for our son, a new house, & deal with winters that I have never experienced. It is huge.

For me every day survival is sometimes an act of courage. I have 5 children 5 and under. A 5 year old, 4 year old twins, and 7 month old twins. I have truly been blessed! I absoutley love them all - but I feel courageous at the end of the day when they have all been cared for: fed, clothed, and loved.

My recent "leap" was to quit a job that I felt I had to based on how I was treated. My self-esteem required that I do so, depite the fact that we could have used the money. I am now living MUCH more frugally, and am happier for it.

In the past couple of weeks I have been doing volunteer work at a homeless shelter. This was something that was tugging at my heart for awhile. As soon as the shelter found out about my past they wanted me to share it with the people and give a testimony. I said yes, but I was terrified to speak in front of people. I was so nervous but I knew that this is what I had been called to do. SO a few people prayed with me before and as soon as I got up on stage all my fears were gone and I felt peace.

well my biggest leap for me is accepting myself, in a whole and accepting what i can't change. It has been really difficult but it has made me push forward and change the things I can.

For the past two weeks, every morning, I have had to have the courage to leave my teary-eyed six year old at school as she begs me to stay one more minute, for one more kiss, or "Please can I just come home with you this one day?" It takes every ounce of everything in me not to cry myself as I leave. Even though in my head I know that she's fine a short time later and to linger or take her home is a slippery slope, in the moment, it's hard to be logical!

In the midst of taken a big leap we had chosen- selling our old home and building a new one ourselves, we find ourselves taking an unexpected leap, and preparing to welcome a new baby later this year. So much change at once is a little scary, but exciting, too

Thanks for the quote. My recent leap has been to opt out of some of my commitments. It has been really hard and even embarrassing to step down from some of my volunteer roles and other "optional" activities but I realized recently that I was spread too thin to really enjoy my life and my kids and husband. It is taking courage but I am trying to trust myself that I know what is right for our family right now and that I will be a better mom and wife and friend when I am less stressed. *My word for this year is Aware and this is part of being honest and aware about how I feel and how it affects my family* Best, Beth

A big leap for me letting go. Trusting in my husband more and trying to not be such a control freak and let him help me.
I know it may not sound like a big deal, but it has been a hard time for me.

I really needed to read that. Thank you.
My latest leap was going to the movies by myself. I don't usually do that and wanted someone to come with me but in the end I'm glad I did it by myself. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and felt completely relaxed when I got home. Exactly what I needed.

We took a big leap and decided to try to conceive after 8 years of being together. Crazy! But it's time. We're finally ready.
