Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

I'm in the middle of leaping...trying to figure out if I can venture into a photography business. Whether it is accelerated or not is to be seen as my company is going to be doing layoffs soon, but I'm excited about the possibilities!

Wow Ali - what fabulous, generous prizes!!!
My husband and I moved to a foreign country (Costa Rica) a few years ago and although we love it, there are daily challenges. We have learned to look at our life as an adventure and to count our many blessings. My most recent leap is to teach an arts & crafts class at the elementary school. It's a leap because I don't know Spanish very well and don't have any kids of my own to draw experience from. There's a need for volunteers and I love to craft so here I go!
I love, love, love your blog!

I homeschool my daughter, and a recent (huge) leap for me has been to let go of the time frame, gotta-learn-it-by-May metality that I'd had. (I was a public school teacher for 15 years.) I am learning to trust myself and her and know that it will come, in her time. Quite a leap, but one I know is right.

What a fun topic to read about. This made me really think. My two biggest leaps would be leaving my job of 16 years of teaching middle schoolers to becoming a media specialist. My second leap...and perhaps the biggest, is surviving the "empty-nest" syndrome as my last child left home for college. It's been very tough to adjust to not having the busy-constant-mom stuff. That has been my real job for so many years! They still need me but now in different ways. Thank goodness for cell phones! :)

My leap was to finally start to make freinds and come out of my shell. I told myself I was doing it for my daughter's sake, I wanted her to have a sense of community and feel like she belonged. The bennifits to me have been enormous. I am very blessed to have very good friends now.

I have taken HUGE leaps that are very personal in the past 2 months. I have to learn to trust that it will all work out. I have to learn to let other people help me and my family.
Thanks - always for the inspiration!
I wish I could take the Italy trip, but it's not in the cards right now. But I would love a chance a the other things!

My most recent LeAp was to purchase a session for a 3D/4D ultrasound of our baby-to-be. My husband and I went last night and were impressed with the office and staff and the results. We got a great shot to verify that he is, indeed, a boy. We were asked to come back within 2 weeks for a complimentary session because he was being "uncooperative" and had his hands blocking his face for most of the session.

My leap was to trust someone again, even though I am not sure it was the right thing to do, but I feel better about it. Thanks for the chance to win!

The BIG leap for me has not happened for us yet, but it's beginning to.
My husband and I have prayed for God to do great things in our lives and when you ask for that you have to be willing to step out in FAITH. My husband has preached a few times in our church when our pastor is out and at other churches that needed a fill in. But, he is beginning to really want to preach more. I have been scared about if the Lord is calling him to be a preacher. I SO struggle with being a "Pastors Wife" I do not feel like I am at that point spiritually. But, the truth is I will never feel like I am at that point. I will never be Perfect. Nobody is, except Jesus. I am learning to rely on Faith and allowing God to mold me and make me into who He wants me to be. It's hard to let God change us even when it's better for us. I don't know why we try to fight God's will for us because it's ALWAYS going to be the best because He Loves us so much!!! I have struggled with the fact the my husband might be a preacher someday because I don't feel worthy, and the truth is, I'm not, but as long as I allow God to lead me and our family He will do great things in our lives. I slowly see our lives changing and I get scared but I am learning to Trust and have Faith. He is teaching me to draw close to Him and listen to Him. I do not want to get in the way of God's plan for our lives just because I feel like I'm not ready. We should always be ready to allow the Lord to change us and do great things for us. So no matter what changes people are going through you always have to be willing to let the Lord lead, He want's the best for and He knows what is best for us. Just listen and let him guide your every step, You won't regret it!!
Love Ya,
Sarah

Hi Ali - my most recent leap of faith is actually twofold - I took a vacation to Maui during all this chaos in the business world which was scary - hoping I had a job to come back to (I did -do) and the vacation was the first time in 17 years I had left my son and went off on a trip without him. He was with his father so no worries but I always take him on vacation with me......it was scary and nice and we all survived!

My most recent leap was into my life-long dream job; I am now heading up the drama department. I think the more courageous act, however, was recently being honest with myself and those around me about how tiring this really is.

reconnecting with people I knew in high school. They weren't always the nicest of people. I'm glad to have made the decision and that time and maturity has changed them:)

My most recent leap was my husband and I buying our first home. It was definitly a big leap, but it was well worth it.
I wouldn't be able to go to italy if I won, but I'd still love to be entered in the drawings for the library of memories, or the february kit. Thanks for the chance!

My most recently leap was switching to a new voluntary position with my sorority...I'm now serving as a recruitment director for 21 chapters. It is going to be a test of faith for me to help this many collegiate women meet their potential!
