Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

I joined a boot camp group. It is hard. Really hard. I am the slowest in the group. It takes great courage for me to get up and go every morning - at 6:00 am. I am going to do this . . .

Hi Ali: My most recent leap...happened back in November o8, when I started my own blog. So much to learn yet, but I'm happy I made the leap. Your blog is something for me to aspire to, thank you for your daily inspiration. Kim

I guess my most recent act of courage was surviving the "Blackout of 2009" over the past week as our area in KY was hit with a sheet of ice that left thousands without power. We were out from Tuesday morning until Monday night. With two kids and freezing temps, it was not fun. I am so thankful to have things back to normal now.

My husband is in the Army and we are due to move this summer. When he found out he would be deploying overseas sooner than we thought, we took a leap to move to a bigger and better house for our family. So far the leap has paid off, although it's been a lot of work and change in daily routines. Thanks for the awesome giveaways!

My most recent act of courage was today when I applied for an open position in my office.
It would be a very nice promotion!
Wish me luck.

my biggest leap this year is believing in myself and constantly reminding myself that I can do everything I want and I can voice my opinion.

Congrats to everyone's big leaps - they are really inspiring:)
Mine seems pretty insignificant, but I made a leap to start sharing some of my songwriting - it is so personal and really difficult (like sharing a journal), but it has been really rewarding!

My most recent big leap is to quit teaching full time and stay home with my son. It's been scary to take that cut in pay and my family is making sacrifices to make up for it, but it's been worth everything. Plus, what at first seemed like sacrifices (no eating out, no new clothes, etc.) has forced us into living more simply and has made us truly appreciate everything that we have.

I did not have to leap recently (4 yrs ago we moved into a new country so that was a big step an brought many new opportunities) but I have a huge one to do in the near future. We need to decide whether to accept that we may never have children or whether we are willing to take different steps to achieve what we hope for. So that is an act of courage that I am working on right now and I do not know where it may take me and my husband. But I have him and that is the greatest gift!

my current leap is I'm in the process of redecorating my living room on a tight budget. I'm fighting seasonal depression with everything I've got. I painted the walls a warm yellow, bought some plants-to bring the outside in, and found some awesome pillows on clearance at Target to change up the color of the room.

I have taken the leap to not be afraid to say "NO" to things that are getting in the way of me being a Mom. My life was getting run over by everyone else's needs, and my children were being pushed behind. NOT ANY MORE!!

My most recent leap was babysitting a friend's child overnight. My husband and I are starting to plan our family and it was a little glimpse into what life would be like. The three of us hung out and had dinner, then I put her to bed. I checked on her several times during the night, even though she is six. In the morning I woke her up, made her breakfast, got her ready, and brought her to school. It made me realize how ready we are to have a little one of our own.
I would love to be in Stacy's class, but with the economy right now it just isn't in the budget. Hope you pick me!!!

My biggest act of courage lately? Commiting to run with my husband with a half-marathon as a goal. Keeping in mind that a half-block is long distance for me now, this is ambitious!!

A colleague and I opened our own private practice just two years ago. It has involved many leaps (learning about insurance contracts, marketing with doctors, taxes, taxes, and taxes) but is slowly coming to be what we invisioned. I don't think I would have done this on my own. I am so glad to have taken the leap. Thanks for the chance to win!

Big leap: With the economy the way it is, I had to leave my "stay-at-home-mom" status and go back to work. Totally hard to leave my kids, but totally worth it in many ways - financial and personal.
Little leap: I hate my handwriting but decided to "just do it" and have now done 2 scrapbook pages with handwritten notes. I actually love those pages!

My recent leap of faith is "letting go"... my first born is now in 1st grade. He goes to a "big boy" school. He wanted to be part of the before/after school program offered by the city, which is right next door to the school. I had to let him go, trust him to be able to walk to school in the morning and from school in the afternoon (the building is just right next door to the school). It is hard not being there to make sure he knows where to go. I know it is part of growing up, but it is hard to let go.

My most recent leap is to start exercizing again. It has only been 3 days but can already feel the difference in my own attitude. I am more relaxed and happy.

My most recent leap--my mom passed away on Monday. She was my best friend. We knew the end was near and said our goodbyes, had our peace, on Saturday. Having to make that leap from hanging onto my mom to letting her go has been the hardest, biggest leap I've ever done.
