Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

My most recent leap is signing up for TEAM in TRAINING. I'm not the most athletic person... I work out here and there, that's about it. So on my "bucket" list which I wrote two years ago incluldes running a marathon, so here I am today, training to run my first marathon - it's going to be GREAT!

I would love any of these! My biggest leap of courage lately... letting go of my kitchen. lol My son just started an 'academy' soccer league. It means many nights on the road. So, my oldest "at home" child is taking over cooking a few days a week. Last night, I started the chicken and she finished the meal. It was Chicken and Dumplings. And it was perfect. She made a lovely meal. Couldn't have done better myself.
So much about being MOM means taking care of everyone. With seven children, that's become an impossible feat. But I've refused to see that until now.. so I've gotten a bit flustered, over extended and just plain exhausted trying to be everywhere and doing everything. Letting her cook something besides tacos was a big step for me. Now that I type this out.. I realize how silly I've been. lol So my leap of courage is actually a leap of sanity!
Thanks for the opportunity to win.

My most recent leap is taking a leadership role at work, without additional compensation, due to budget cuts. Someone needed to step up and with a little encouragement from my friends, I took the leap. Frigthening and exhilarating all at once. Not quite sure I love my new role, but I am trying to be fair and do a good job!

Hi Ali! Thank you for sharing the wonderful quote as well as hosting these giveaways! My most recent leap was to begin submitting layouts to magazines for publication consideration. It was something I really wanted to do, but it was also a huge fear... for the inevitable rejection and the possible realization that my work isn't magazine worthy. But I took the leap and gave it a try anyway! And at the end of the day, my family loves our scrapbooks which is what matters most :) -Sharyn

The biggest leap I ever took....I quit my great job, traveling, quit my empty nest...and decided to raise my two grandchildren. That was 12 years ago and now they are 14 and 15 and the greatest kids ever! I even homeschooled them. Best leap I ever took!!!!!
A few years ago my grandson said, "Grandma, I don't know where we would be today without you and Pop!"

My most recent leap of courage - baby #3!!! Totally unexpected, which scared the living daylights out of us, but now we're happy to be adding to our little family. Thanks for the post!

My biggest leap has been seriously pursuing a degree after being out of high school for 30 years. I work part-time and am taking two classes and am a full-time mom for a middle school-age tween and an elementary-age child. That's a big leap!

What a wonderful quote, thank you so much for sharing it.
A recent "leap of faith" for me has been agreeing to sing a duet in church. I love to sing, but am very, VERY self conscious about my voice alone. I don't mind singing in a choir, but this duet has a few solo parts where I and my partner sing alone. Although I am nervous, I am already feeling my confidence and excitement grow as I tackle a fear I've had for almost 20 years. We sing this Sunday, so wish me luck!

My leap was a about 1,5 year ago.
I was not happy in the job I had and I quit my job before I found a new one. But I was sure I would find a new challenge in my life when I was feeling beter and more in peace.
It took a few weeks, but then I find the job I was looking for (where I am still working and where I feel great!).

My latest big leap of courage was entering into a weight loss and exercise program. I had been telling myself for years that I was happy the way I was...what a farce. I am not happy being overweight and 3 weeks ago I finally had enough! I have lost 8 pounds and now exercise everyday! I feel so much better inside and out! Yay! :)

Ali, I did need that excerpt today! We are a military family and while we are used to moving, our most recent move will be paired with a deployment. My leap of faith is to move with my spouse to a new area, start a new job and then watch him leave for a year.. I know it will all work out, it always does, but the jump preparation is always so hard!
Thanks!

My biggest leap was when we moved 1100 miles away from family with my girls 5,3 and 4 months. I cried for 3 months but I became a better person.
The small leap was probably this last year when I took over more responsibilities at work. Thanks for making we think about this--just might have to do a lo about it!!

Taking the leap with throwing away my son's bottles and transitioning him exclusively to sippy cups. Today is day 1 and there's already been a handful of meltdowns and lots and lots of crying. Hate to see him so unhappy but we already prolonged this a lot longer that we should have.
