Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

I took a big leap today and applied for a new job that would actually be a whole new career!
I am in the process of making a little leap (or maybe it is a big one too) into NOT scrapbooking chronologically and am re-doing my albums along the lines of Stacy's "Big Picture" and "Photo Freedom" books. I have bought all the albums and done the title pages for "People We Love" and I am excited to get more done! Would love to win Stacy's class to push me along!!

I take it back...I thought adopting three kids from Poland was a leap of courage, but really parenting them everyday is the act of courage...the courage to say know through the tears, the courage to be a parent with patience, the courage to advocate for their needs.

Ali...
My leap of courage is regarding finding out about my father in law's cancer which spread from his kidney, to his lung, and now to his brain......I am trying to be strong for both my husband, my inlaws, and my children, when inside I just want to sit and cry.
I am finding little ways to let everyone know how much I love them...and I am learning not to take any day for granted.
Thanks for sharing your site with us!

A large leap of courage for me was separating from my husband. Very hard with children but a decision I felt I had to make.
A smaller leap of courage was forcing myself to go to a crop alone at Archivers where I met new scrap buddies.
Ironically one of my words for 2009 is Courage - the other is beginnings.
Thanks Ali for sharing this, I needed this today. You are the best!

My leap is that unexpected pregnancy that Alex mentioned! Dealing with my emotions regarding the situation and trying to remember that this is a precious gift, I just have to choose to see it that way!

Learning to live on my own for the first time. Such a big change form living like a queen to washing my own clothes and cooking for myself. Feels different to walk home to an empty house free from noise. I love it and I don't love it. I miss my family but I absolutely love the solitude of being alone and appreciating myself.

I took a leap into a less stressful job so I could be more "there" and present with my kids while they are little. I know it sounds easy to take a step back, but it's not. I was worried I would be bored or resentful, but I am glad I did it when I walk into the house for the kids!

A recent leap for me was supporting my husband when he decided to quit his job and join a friend in starting a company. I was thinking, in THIS economy? But they really believe in what they're doing and it makes them happy. So my leap, or act of courage or whatever, was putting my financial fears aside and supporting my husband as he works for his dream.

My most recent BIG leap? I learned to ride a bike several years ago. Mind you, I'm 39yo now. I never learned as a kid, and BOY is it a LOT harder when you're a grown-up!! But - I was motivated because I wanted to learn before my son learned how to ride a 2-wheeler.
So now we still have to work on my 6yo daughter, but I can tell her, "If I can do it, you can too!"
(OK - trip to Italy, not so do-able for me, but thanks for the chances for the giveaways! I'm enjoying reading the rest of these comments.)

Not that you need any more comments in here. Our big leap of courage is my husband going back to school. Career change takes courage.
Italy sounds sooooo good. No such luck though.

My recent leap was on Sunday when my family and I went back to church. ... It was our 5 year old daughter who said, "We need to go to chuch! I want to see Jesus!"

Most recent leap for me was to make some hard personal changes for myself and my family. They rouequire lots of work and commitment but I believe will be well worth the outcome. Excited for the future! (this is only possible through these changes) Thanks for sharing that quote with us today! (Italy sounds really great to me right now)

Big Leap for me recently was to walk into the gym and go over to "buff man land" as I call it. You know the area...all the big guys in muscle shirt lifting big weights all while looking in the mirror. Totally intimidating.
Well, I walked over to that area, picked up my little 8 lb weights and did my workout. It felt really good....

wow! Lots of entries so far! My recent leap of faith was to quit my job and become a stay at home mom. It has taken some adjusting, but so far I am loving being more available for my family.
I would Love to take stacy's class, but it's not in the budget this year (see my leap of faith above) ;-)

My leap of faith, giving up our beautiful home and fabulous friends to follow my husband to a new station who knows where, we sit, we wait and will soon here where the next chapter of our lives begins. I am taking a leap for our family, three children and for the love of my life, my husband.
Would love to try Staceys class, three kids and numerous out of control photos, memorablia that so desperately needs sorting, another leap of sorts to get it organised!

Don't feel very courageous. But looking back there have been some tough situations that I survived.
Thanks for the giveaway offerings!

My leap right now is trusting that God has a plan. Trusting that I am in the right spot doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing. At times I want to scream and take control, but I am trying to be patient and see what the Lord has in store. I'm leaving my career up to him and trusting He is guiding my on the right path.

The day I came home from CHA, my husband said he didn't want to be married anymore. Assuring me it was nothing I "did," he just wants to be alone. *sigh*
As of now, I'm not sure what will happen or what the future holds for us, but I'm trying so hard to be strong. I'm trying so hard to muster courage I didn't even know I possessed. And I'm holding on to the hope that strength and courage won't fail me. :)
Whether I win that LOM class or not, thank you so much for posting that quote. I needed that. :)
