Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

Wow-there are a lot of big leaps in the comments so far. Mine is a bit smaller, I decided that I am going to actively look for and take classes at my local stamp store. I am a very quiet person until I get to know people and have taken some classes with friends in the past but I want to be able to go to classes by myself. My roommate recently went back to school and it has inspired me to learn some new techniques & things, too.

This is probably going to seem like s strange leap of faith. My dh and I bought a fruit farm almost 5 years ago in Hawaii and moved here last year. Part of the farm was a wild area that we could not mow due to the steepness of the terrain but we wanted to keep the guinea grass down (a non-native introduced weed that grows well here and outcompetes everything). So we decided we should get some sheep. Mindful that neither one of us knows anything about sheep or how to take care of them. We got 22 hair sheep (a tropical breed of sheep that don't have wool) about 3.5 months ago and we are learning how to take care of them.

My mini leap is to be a chaperone for a volleyball tournament for ten 14 year old girls. I am a little nervous, but most really excited to be with my daughter's VB team all weekend.
Thanks for the great topic and for the chance to win.

Great blog, Ali. Thx.
Biggest leap for me is to trust in something I cannot see; to believe in something that sometimes doesn't make sense to my feeble mind; to know that objective truth can't be defined within me, but in something much bigger and greater.

My most recent leap has been self control. Deciding that losing weight is not about one large push, but many small decisions on a daily basis, and willing myself to be stronger than my impulse.

I was forced into a leap when my grandmother died two weeks ago and my grandfather died this Monday. It's been so much so quickly that I'm just numb right now. But I've been through our family photos twice now for tribute videos and I do know I'm in desperate need of Library of Memories!

Thanks to all the bloggers and writers out there who are a continued source of encouragement and inspiration. A shout out to my close friends, too!

meeting my new baby grandaughter who I only knew was going to enter this world 3 months ago. Looking at her thru tears of joy, getting to know my new daughter in law to be, and hugging my son. Life is lived in little leaps of courage be it emotional, physical or mental ...we choose to have courage.

First thank you for that message. It was definitely something I needed to hear today. My most recent leap of faith, which is a big one, was to walk away from a marriage of 15 years. I took me years to realize that unhappiness only leads to stillness. Being a compassionate person and one that enjoys the growth process, as painful as it might be, it was time to move on. It has been an incredible empowering journey, and though a painful process still, it has allowed me to see the change in myself that I needed to see, not only for myself, but for my three daughters who need to see women become more empowered. I'm glad I can be one of the first of many women.
Thank you again,
Tina Guerrero

Thanks for all the great giveaways! I guess my most recent act of courage occurred this past week...found out the real reason that my parents divorced 20 years ago & now I see both parents in a different light. I have needed faith & courage to deal with this new information. I think my new personal motto will be, "We put the FUN in dysfunctional!"

My most recent leap has been into my second pregnancy - and just at a time when my firstborn decided to hit the terrible two's. Now we're exactly one week away and I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to handle being a mother of two - much less how I'm going to get any scrapping done! In fact, what am I doing on the computer anyway? I should be being productive! LOL

oops! got so excited that I forgot the leap! My most recent is starting an online business with a friend from high school (we've been out almost 20 years), we are moms who share similar interests and we have been up and running 1 year! Hard times to start a business, but it's great to have a friend to pick you up when you are down or worried and vice versa. Polka Dot Package is hanging in there and we are learning and growing in the process!! Thanks for your positiveness Ali (and Alex)!

My most recent leap was a few weeks ago when I called up the mother of my daughter's friend and asked her to meet for coffee so we could get to know each other.
My word for this year is 'connect' and this word really has made me take more leaps b/c I tend to be a shy, private person. I normally wouldn't make the first move in getting to know someone new but b/c of my word it made me move beyond my comfort level and reach out. Now I have a new friend that I've met up with twice for coffee. :-)

My most recent act of courage lately is to try to run the house within our means. This may not sound like any great feat, but in this world where you can buy now, pay later this is proving to be a very large challenge. No credit cards, no frivilous purchases just getting back to basics and actually taking the time to enjoy it. It has been a massive challenge. Somedays are better than others.

My most recent leap of courage was not one that I thought of as 'courageous' at first. We moved from Toronto to Oslo, Norway. I speak a little bit of Norwegian and have moved countries a couple of times before.. but nothing could have prepared me for the changes I would face in my new home in Oslo. And looking back, I think it was indeed something that I was brave enough to step into.. and the future has a lot for me to embrace and dare to do... That's my word for 2009 by the way, DARE. Thanks for the opportunity to win something cool! :) Happy baby-waiting.

Well, I took a leap six months ago to help a friend of ours change his private chiropractic business over to a franchise. I left a big corporate office and went to work in a small office with only two other people. It's been a challenge and I've learned a lot about myself in the process. I miss my corporate job, but the patients I have met and have been able to help have made it well worth the leap!
