Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

My most recent leap was to move out of my comfort zone and volunteer my time to a worthy cause.

Wow, great prizes this week.
My biggest/latest leap happend just today. So what you posted really reaffirmed what I am going through. My husband (of 10 years) and I are sperating. For the first time ever I have to find a way to support myself and our two children. After weeks of trying to find the moeny to go to college and starting to think it was never going to happen...I was able to get the money it will take. For the first time since this all began I am able to take a leap into a new life where I am self suffciant and able to take care of my sons.

My biggest leap....agreeing to my husband's suggestion to move to Mexico after our house in Canada burned down. Today's smaller leap...taking our 4yo son to a school where he doesn't speak the language and leaving him there for the day (he loved it!)

My biggest leap is leaving my job of 18 years and starting a new job in a totally different field. Totally loving it - happier than I have ever been.

My most recent act of courage is going to St Jude's hospital and reading to children who are sick. I love to read aloud. It's an act of courage because at one point I was one of those kiddos and hate to go back to hospitals and re-live moments. I am doing that now! It's scary but in the end I love myself for truly admitting that I was fearful of something.

Ali,
Wow, your friend has made quite a few major 'leaps' in her life, hasn't she? She is simply inspiring. Thank you for sharing the link to her blog.
I, too, have made some 'leaps' in my life. The most recent and biggest being giving up a career I loved to start a family with my husband of 9 years-who I love more than anything. Being a SAHM has been both terrifying & liberating ... :)
I would love to win a place in Stacy's LOM class, however, my luck at winning any of your giveaways has been terrible, everyone else always has much better answers to your questions ... :) Here's hoping today is my lucky day ...
Thanks for the opportunity & great giveaways!

My leap....going back to work after time off with my family. It wouldn't be my first choice, but since my husband lost his job...it is a must for now!

I have had to realize that I am sooo not in control any more of my little boys, they are growing up and it is so hard for me to let them grow and go...I realized that this is a huge leap into a new life for me...I have been the mother of babies and small children for 20 years, now I am back to just me.
Leaping Junelle :o) (please send me to italy?)

Wow! Another great day with beautiful giveaways that any of us would be glad to win. Thanks for sharing them and the touching quote with us. My great leap is to step back and trust that everything that we have done the past 18 years with our son will be revealed in his life as he spreads his wings during the final months of his senior year of high school and then beyond to college.

My biggest leap lately has been committing to the lifestyle I want and to be a healthier person in 2009. So far so good!

My son and I are attending a baseball class together. I've never been athletically gifted and never played sports before. I have lots of reservations since my son is socially anxious and has trouble with new experiences. Our first class went pretty rough yesterday. But I'm going to push both our comfort levels and keep going. My hope is that he will be comfortable enough to play baseball with other kids and not feel so conscious of himself.
Thanks Ali, I needed that bit of encouragement today.

Fantastic giveaways...thanks for the chance to win! Your friend's bit about courage & leaps is very beautifully put. Right now our "leap" is deciding to start a family. Very exciting, but definitely takes a bit of courage. :)

My most recent "leap" really hasn't been a leap at all, rather the decision to not leap, but tough it out and make it work. I am so proud of myself for trying to work thru it rather than "leaping"ship!

Last May I accepted a position teaching special education in a local school after 4 years of working from home and staying with my children. I was terrified...not sure if I would still remember how to be a good teacher, afraid of hurting my children by placing them in daycare while I worked and most of all worried about truly being able to reach my students. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. I love my job, feel extremely blessed to work with such incredible students and feel very strongly that my job make me a better mother, since I cherish so much more dearly the time we do have together.
I feel so very, very thankful for the leap of faith I took almost a year ago. It has positively impacted the most significant aspects of my life!

I took a new position at the school where I teach, which was completely different than anything I've ever done. And I am so thankful I took the leap!

Great giveaways Ali...
I keep checking back to see if little A has come into the world yet!
I would have to say my biggest leap was deciding to invite my biological mother to my upcoming wedding. We haven't seen each other in over 10 yrs, and only once have spoken on the phone. I am only getting married once, and felt I should invite her. It took so much to drop it in the mail. The ball is in her court now.

Our most recent big "leap" was moving cross-country for a job. Now, we are hoping to do so again. We want to go where our heart is calling us to go!

My leap hasn't quite happened yet but is in progress. We're relocating our lives from Australia back to Oregon to be closer to my husbands family. Its terrifying, emotional and scary especially with the economy and not knowing what the future holds job wise. But its going to be an adventure, exciting, fun, and great to be closer to the support of family and friends.
