Wednesday Sponsor Giveaway: Freehand Scraps, Big Picture Scrapbooking, + Paper & Co. Show
First, I want to pass along a thought for today that I came across on my friend Alex's blog about courage & leaps:
What I realized is that there is not just one big moment of courage in
our lives. There are many. These moments come to us in different ways.
At times we are forced into a leap (unexpected pregnancy, when parents
or partners pass away, when we loose our job). At times we are called
into a leap (when someone invites us for a trip of a lifetime, when our
partner wants to move to a new city, when we are offered a chance, when
we take the "money maker" role to support our family). Then there are
also the daily tiny leaps we take for the sake of adventure (when we
try new types of food, music, when we go out on a date, when we talk to
a stranger, when we transition from blogger friends to real life
friends). No matter how small, silly or hard, tiny, dramatic or
forgotten... All leaps are important because little by little, we live
through change, we figure out how to cope, we move forward, we learn
who we are, and we build our confidence for the bigger leaps, the ones
we seek for ourselves.
Maybe someone else out there needed to hear this today too...
And now, three cool midweek sponsor giveaways are on tap for today:
• One person will receive a February Kit from Freehand Scraps.
• Two people will receive passes to Stacy Julian's fantastic online Library of Memories class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Focused on getting your scrapbook albums in working order and organizing your photos (in a very "you-centered" way), I highly recommend the class and/or Stacy's book Photo Freedom. Class begins February 12th and runs for 16 weeks. This class is only offered once a year.
• One person will receive 4 classes for the Paper & Co. event in Italy on March 27, 28, and 29 (giveaway does not include travel, accommodations, or food for the event). You can check out a list of the classes here. Italy sure sounds good to me right about now :).
To be included in the drawing today please leave a comment below and share your most recent "leap" or act of courage. Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winners posted shortly after.
I would also like to take a minute to welcome and thank my newest blog sponsors:
Digital Birdhouse : digital scrapbook products
Scarlet Lime : monthly kit club
The Paper Pixie : paper embellishments
The Digital Scrapbook Teacher : photoshop tutorials and classes for hybrid + digital scrapbooking
Lettergirls : delightful hand-created address stamps

My leap is to trust myself to let go of the past. I make this leap every day in different ways, but I often find myself thinking back..."if I had chosen that instead of this" or "I remember when I did that" or "if only that had happened instead of this." I have to find the courage to be content and continue leaping!

Ah! Wonderful challenge, Ali! Not to mention some cool giveaways!
My most recent act of courage was a big leap and that has been to help my son through a drug treatment program. Standing behind him was the easy part for a parent. Dealing with everything that goes with that is the hard part - coming "clean" with family, running interference for him with old friends he is breaking contact with, the level of financial and time commitment it takes, and just watching his pain. Huge leaps.

My leap of faith this year is to actively seeking a publisher for a book I want to compile of lessons I taught to my Special Ed kids on how to survive in the real world. They are lessons I feel a lot of kids today need, not just Special Ed kids...like balancing checkbooks, budgeting, filling out applications, etc.

my recent leap is turning 6 months old today. After a very complicated second pregnancy, my husband and I decided to give up our dream of having 3 kids but I got pregnant again when my son was 10 months old. My doctor said I should not have this baby, it would be difficult again for sure. It was not easy, but we are both here and health and my little baby girl "A" :) is turning 6 months old today. My heart is singing :)

My biggest leap was last June. I turned 60 and, determined not to let technology get away from me, set up my first blog. I am so glad that I did because I have made new friends and visited so many inspirational sites.

for me, it would be getting up the courage to sit down with my boss and share some not-so-great things that have been going on in our store. frustrations that fellow employees and i have shared for quite a while, but nobody has been willing to bring it to upper-management's attention. i was nervous, shaky and rambled a bit, but i did it and was thanked at the end of it all. and i felt great when i walked out of the office!

My leap of faith was to finish my degree in graphic design at the age of almost 50! Its something I've always wanted to do but back in the day, art was viewed as frivolous learning, a hobby, not a career. So after wishing out loud enough times, my own mother told me to just go do it. So i did. I graduate this month and feel satisfied with the accomplishment. I may even have a new career point fastly approaching!
so hence, I greatly enjoy reading your site and books because of your design influence.
Thanks!

My latest leap - over the weekend, I invited casual friends over for dinner, in hopes of getting to know them better. And it worked - we had a great time!

Hmmm, biggest leap? Not really a huge one, but I finally dove into knitting. I've really wanted to knit slippers, scarves and mittens for my kids and I finally was determined enough to learn.

Even though I can't afford to go to Italy, I have to respond.
Tomorrow I am heading to the local middle school to try to teach some 8th graders how to do a little digi. I consider myself to be a horrible teacher, and am cowering at the thought of facing even a small group of 13-year-olds. But I'm going to give it a try. Who knows, maybe they won't bite?!!!

This is a great giveaway, Ali. :)
My most recent act of courage was to go to my ob/gyn because I'm pretty sure my endometriosis is back. Nothing's been confirmed, but I've been in denial about it for about a month and it was time to do something while I still had some control over the end result. :)

Wow, that was a really great post by Alex. I love when she says that all leaps are important, that's very validating and very true.
My most recent leap is submitting my work for publications. It really stinks when you don't get picked up, but that is the way it goes. I don't know if or when I will get published, but I do know that I won't ever be published if I don't submit!

Last summer I lept back into running, which was scary because I'm injury prone and I really worry about chronic injury, but I was successful! Then winter came, and I had to stop (I'm just not down with sub-zero temps)...and I'm angry with myself that I didn't take the leap to the gym. I didn't PUSH myself (that's my word for this year!) hard enough.

That's a great quote - I'll definitely be filing it away.
A recent leap - moving to a small town, and doing a tap dance (in public no less!) with a bunch of other 30-year-old friends. I'm *trying* to make various leaps that are probably small but seem enormous to me - like improving my daily routine to be more productive, or (LOL) spending less time online. Sometimes it's more like staggering than leaping, but I guess just making the effort (and continuing to make the effort!) is the point.
Oh how I would love to have no excuse not to take the leap of LOM!

Yes, I needed to hear that today! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the quotation.
My husband and I were blessed to be able to adopt our son 2.5 years ago after 5 LONG years of waiting. We began the adoption process again when he was 1, and have now been looking to "find" baby #2 for about 17 months. We were chosen in December by a sweet young woman and we were overjoyed to be able to prepare for another child due in April. However, we just found out she has decided to parent instead of placing her child in our family. My leap right now is to continue to have faith and to trust that we will find our baby when the time is right. My leap is putting myself back out there again. Today I had a doctor's appointment and took our pass-along cards to the office for them to hand out to anyone considering adoption. Another leap: asking you to please follow the link to check out our site and to pass it along to anyone you know who might be considering adoption:

Great post!
I have two leaps:
1)Working out every single day this week - trying to lose the baby gut.
2)Joined a Bible Study with a friend.
I just recently purchased Stacy's Photo Freedom book and would love to get more in depth training on how her system works. I love the book and am very inspired.

Wow, look at all these comments! Ali, my latest biggest leap is getting pregnant! This came about a year earlier than planned, but it's coming, whether planned or not!
