Sunday Happiness: Eric Carle on The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Tags:Around here we are big fans of Eric Carle's books - especially his classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Loved finding this little video gem online today where he talks a bit about the book and his creative process as he celebrates the release ofThe Very Hungry Caterpillar 40th Anniversary Pop-Up Book.
Someday I would love to visit his museum in Amherst. He even has a blog :).
I love Sundays.

We love Eric Carl books and The Very Hungry Caterpillar has a very special place in our home - it is such a well loved book - and well worn. Brody started reading this when he went to Providence special needs school, they even got caterpillar kits and released the butterflys outside once done in the cocoon - I just finished making the boys Very Hungry Caterpillar quilts and I love them so much and so did they!
Thank you for sharing - didn't realize that it was 40 years old.
Happy sunday

It was a favorite of my now 23 year old son. I still have his copy.... I plan to keep it and read it to my grandchildren one day. (sigh)

Ali, did you catch the Art of Eric Carle exhibit when it was at the Tacoma WA Art Museum in 2006-2007? My daughter went on a school field trip to see it, and we enjoyed it so much.

You really should visit his museum. It's very close to my in-laws place in Amherst, and I've been there before. I loved there!
You'll even love the town itself, too.
Very small, but very very beautiful place.

Ali, thank your for sharing. My heart smiled when he said "I love collage." Just to see his creative process was wonderful. I didn't know his art wasn't painted! And he seems like such a sweet, gentle man. Growing up IS hard, and I'll be he's helped many, many children. And yes, we have a number of Eric Carle books in our house. Although my son is now in his teens, I've tucked the books away for his children, when he has them.

The museum is a great place to visit - The Art Studio is particularly fun for kids (of all ages).

Ali, I have been to the museum as well. Western Mass is where I grew up. It is a wonderful place. Its very interactive and I loved the original artwork gallery. The very hungry caterpillar has a special meaning to me as well. At 8 months old I found my youngest son with a caterpillar in his mouth and we thought it was really funny that he had just received that book on the same day. Fortunately he only mouthed the caterpillar and hadn't chewed it.

I love Eric Carl. My favorite is "The Very Quiet Cricket." I've been collecting his books for my son, and I'm glad that there are board books in his collection that we can read together now. Thanks for sharing the links to his blog and museum.

We love Eric Carle in this house too, but we're bigger Brown Bear fans than than the caterpillar. But when my son was a babe, 5 years ago, the Carter's brand came out with a whole line of baby layette with the Hungry caterpillar theme. I think I might even still have one of the onesies. So cute :)

Thank you for sharing the video of Eric Carle. It brought tears to my eyes. I miss my kids being little. I've read that book so many, many times. It's packed safely away for them to enjoy with their children one day.
He seems so sweet and caring.
thanks!

Eric Carle is truly a beautiful man. I had the honor of meeting him in college and having several of my books signed by him. He even draws a little caterpillar when he signs--treasures!

A few years back I helped do a workshop for a kindergarten class and we based it on Eric Carle's art---they each painted sheets of paper, then cut out their own animal shapes from the paper they painted, and we made an alphabet and time book from the animals and stories they told. It was so fun---I have a mini copy of that book, and still love to pull it out and remember the kids that did each page! Sweet video---thanks for sharing it and bringing up good memories!
