Don't try to scrap every picture.

My advice - you don't need every new gizmo, paper or embellishment to scrapbook. Simple tools, journaling and the photos are all you need to capture the memory.

My advice would be to use your things before buying new because from my experience I have just as much stuff right now that Archiver's has.
save your scraps, you can do so many things with them.

I would tell a new scrapper that is ok if you don't scrap in chronological order. Scrap whatever photos or events that you are in the mood for.

Your stuff doesn't have to look like the art in scrapbook magazines - It's okay to start simple and learn as you go!

My best advice for a new scrapbooker is to start small and not buy everything in sight. Do a little research first. Surf around the internet. There are so many different sites and blogs about scrapbooking that help give some perspective on how to start. And also, don't sweat it if your first layouts don't look like the ones you see. You develop your personal style as you go along. I've only scrapped for little over a year and my first layouts compared to now are completely different.

My tip: don't cut your photos into strange shapes!! If you see a cool design, or want to make a shape with a photo, always use a copy. You can't get back the whole picture that you've cropped into a strange lop-sided octogon!

My advice to a new scrapbooker is............. Develop your own style. We constanly look through magazines and we are constantly bombarded with the latest and greatest according to the industry. It is ok to use the supplies we have. It is ok if our pages dont look exactly like the ones in the magazines. Its about telling the story and preserving the memory.

That there are no rules, scrap what makes you happy on that day, and most importantly, there are no deadlines!

My advice is to start scrapping, learning by doing is so much fun!

my advice is to start slow. don't be intimated by all the gorgeous creations by these experienced scrappers. take classes, look up tutorials. and don't be disappointed when your first projects don't turn out the way you want it to. learn from experience, and there are no such thing as mistakes. go with the flow!

I wished someone had told me that I didn't have to scrap in chronological order. For some reason I had it in my head I had to do this. I almost quit scrapping over it. Find albums that allow you to easily move your pages around so you don't have to scrap "in order" that way you can scrap what inspires you! Also you don't have to print every photo! And journal...even if you think it doesn't matter...I can't remember what happened last week let alone last year! You won't be sorry you did...and your family will thank you!!!!!!!

Journal, journal, journal! A great layout will mean nothing more than the sad box of unlabeled photos we were given in a few years if you don't know what the photos are about. It's all about the story behind the picture.
OH, and don't go crazy buying every adorable thing you see. (Not that I would know anything about that!)

Have fun! Be inspired by people, blogs, books. Find friends to scrap with. Take classes once in awhile or join a scrapbook club. Connecting with other people has been the best thing about scrapbooking for me.

My advice is to not obsess over a single layout. Spend a reasonable (you decide that beforehand) amount of time on the page and then move on. And never go back and redo a whole page. Let the page reflect where you were at the time (scrapbook styles etc.)

keep focused on what you're doing and why you're doing it. it is so easy to be overwhelmed.

I wish when I had first started (15 years ago!) that I realized that you could include different size pages in one album. That would have been helpful. :)
