My advice to a new scrapbooker would be:
1 - Have fun (don't make it a task! Enjoy it!)
2 - Don't get overwhelmed... (Take your time, and refer back to #1)
3 - Find your own style (by finding what feels good to you - not by mimicking others' styles).
4 - Focus on the photos and the story... not the glitter and the do-dads (they're the accents, not the focal pieces).
5 - Go back and enjoy what you've done... don't shove in a closet and forget about it!
6 - Remember, nobody's perfect, allow yourself to be satisfied with your work!

I wish someone would've told me to trust my instincts more. That if I scrap one way and someone else scraps another way, it doesn't mean one way is better. That just getting the photos and stories down on a page is better than nothing. :)

My advice? Nothing is wrong, you never have to catch up, it's not too late, do what feels right for you.

I wish someone would have told me that whichever style scrapbooking you prefer - shabby chic, "messy," digital - is the right style of scrapbooking. I got into it with a bunch of clean-cut, old school girls, and they made me feel terrible for liking splattered paint and non-matted photos.

I would tell a new scrapbooker to do more scraplifting, only scrap the stories you want to scrap, you don't have to do them all and try not to spend a lot of money until you start to get an idea of what you like.

My advice? Don't get caught up in the rules, have-to-do's, trends, etc. Scrap from your heart - scrap for YOU and your family and do what makes YOU happy. In the end, it's all about capturing the memories, not whose owl looks the trendiest :-)

I wish someone had told me from the get go to let go of the notion of perfection. Enjoy the process and create for myself...my family...not for publication or to fit some trend. It took me awhile to figure that out. I would also suggest to keep a list of thoughts & ideas, the funny things said & the little details that are such a big part of our lives. One day these bits and pieces will get scrapbooked and even if they don't the information will still be cherished!!

My advice is to buy as you go. I used to buy supplies and then end up not using them because something better came along or I just forgot about it. I now buy as I go (I make a list) and then I don't spend as much money on things I won't use. Plus, I also look for supplies that I can use for more than one project or page.

Whatever you do - don't cut your photos into tiny little shapes! :-) Amber Dawson

My advice is START, there always has to be a starting point. It doesn't matter if you don't have all the perfect supplies. Improvise. There are only a few supplies you need to get started, with that be creative. Simplicity is best. It is so rewarding!

Be creative. You don't need to buy all the little bits and pieces to make a nice layout. Use what you have, and be creative :) (and pages which can be moved into different orders are good too)

to start small. To begin with a small, managable project--not to think that you'll scrapbook a person's entire life right away.

Don't wait until you have a few hours to scrap or you may never get anything accomplished. Have a projet set out and "visit" it through the day. Waiting for the perfect time to scrap insures I will not accomplish anything!

My best advice would be to start with the pictures that excite you most. Don't try to start at the beginning... your'll find that you best journaling will be stories that are fresh in your mind.

Best advice to a new scrapbooker? There is NO wrong way to scrapbook! Just be yourself :)

start on what you are doing right now. go back and go back and do kindergarten later.

My best advice for the newbie... find some friends who scrapbook and go to a crop with them: friends LOVE to share supplies and tools and as a result, you can quickly find out what you need, want, and what you don't need at all. Plus, it'll show you that there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook - everyone has their own style!

Don't worry too much about scrapbooking all of your memories chronologically, think about which stories you most want to tell and start from there. And you will never be "caught up!!"

My advice to a new scrapbooker would be: Do NOT buy and buy and buy everything. Stick to max 3-4 manufacturers that you really like and fit your style and mix those. This way you will not end up with LOTS of scrapbooking stuff after one or two years that you will never use again. So do not go overboard, it will benefit in the long run, trust me ;)
