My advice would be to start small. Don't buy everything out there. Try an 8x8 or 6x6 then move on to bigger pages. Scrap with friends and tryout there cutters, stamps, embellishments to see what works for you.

I would say - it is OK to not scrap every photo. Write to remember and there is no such thing as behind. This should make you happy, not stressed.

I will say: be cool and don't give up. Sometimes it's hard when nothing work but there are better days.

My advice is to organize your supplies from the very beginning. It will help you to not double purchase and be ready for crops and scrapbooking sessions. Some of the sticker binder products are nice.

Get it down on paper!
Plus...the details in the stories of the pictures used...keeping it simple...and to echo others, not being concerned about having X amount of products. It's really so much about the story and what you'd like ppl. to know when they see your scrapbooking pages.

I wish someone had told me...
... to invest in a decent camera and decent tools instead of buying tons and tons of pretty paper and embellishments that I probably won't even like in a year or two. And don't be shy about taking pictures - someday you will wish you had.

My advice would be don't get caught up in trying to make everything perfect and keep it simple and get it done! (Sounds like some of the things you talk about!) I try to keep those things in mind, too.

You do not have to scrap every photo! You do not have to scrap "in order".

My best advice is to keep great notes about the little things that happen. Keep your pictures and notes orginized so if you can not get to them right away all the pics and info will be right there.

Don't buy every new trendy product that comes out. Find your own style. Have fun.

My advice would be to find your own style and build from there. Just because you love how something looks when someone else does it doesn't mean that's your style!
I would have saved a lot of time if I just went with what worked for me (simple, clean pages) instead of trying to re-create what I thought I had to do (distressed, cluttered, paint, etc).

I wish that someone had told me that you absolutely do not have to go out and buy a ton of supplies or spend a lot of money to create a beautiful scrapbook! Over the years, my most favorite pages have been put together with random bits from around my home, along with really great photos.

I've been scrapping since 1997, and my advice for new scrappers is to step away from the magazines. They can be so intimidating and set the bar unreasonably high.

Repositional adhesive, although there are no mistakes in scrapbooking, it is very frustating when you are just starting out to place the picture upside down accidentally.

Don't think about the old photos and memories that are in boxes or hardrives. Don't think about what you have not done, just think what you are going to do from this point forward.
Just go back to record the last birthday or family reunion. Then probably try to select the best photos of your kids last school year photos and do a double layout.
And never forget also to do layouts about you and your husband, it's not only for the kids.

My advice is to not buy too much product until you've "found your style."

I had no idea what I was doing when I first started scrapping, and I bought way to much "stuff" before I even attempted a page. I wouldn't buy multiples of papers until you actually use them and know you're going to need more. Otherwise you will quickly end up with more paper than you can ever, ever use.

Great goodies! My best advice for a new scrapbooker is to realize from the beginning that there is no wrong way to scrapbook...and remember to JOURNAL, JOURNAL, JOURNAL. I look back on my early pages and there are just photos and embellies. No words. That makes me sad.
As a new scrapper, I wish someone had told me that I didn't have to buy every one of Basic Grey's complete collections. :)

I would tell them not to worry about being "caught up". Tell the stories that are important to you, use your favorite photos, and you'll have beautiful albums!

I wish I didn't try to do a layout for every "event". I focus on capturing what is going on with my family with everday milestones. I enjoy the process SO much more.
