A favorite summer-time tradition for us is going to the Portland zoo. We usually go with a couple friends and their families and always have a great time.

Spending time with my family at the lake. I love the feel of sand on my toes, the smell on the bonfire and all those delicious summer flavors - watermelon, corn on the cob, fresh berries!

A favorite summer tradition is celebrating my sisters birthdays - they are one month apart and are always such fun - swimming, yummy food and now that we are grown - fun cocktails! Love my sisters!

Kayaking the Cedar River near our home. We have extra kayaks so we are always taking friends with us! Our teenagers have started going with their friends now too!

Oh! This is such an easy one for me! My dad is in farming and during the summers, he works very long days driving a tractor with a baler behind making hay and straw. My favorite summer tradition is going out to the fields to visit him... When we were little, we used to pack picnics or bring him KFC, when we got older, we began making meals to take out there and this year, for the first time, we'll bring our five-month-old daughter with us. I can't wait to carry on the tradition and am so happy she'll have the same summer memories I have!
Thanks, Ali... Happy summer to you & your family!

Living in Kansas we obviously did not have the ocean but my parents would pack picnic foods & pop & we'd go to one of the free beaches at the lake. A favorite was Perry State Park. My dad would often grill hot dogs, hamburgers, or packet meals (carrots, onion, potatoes, & hamburger patty). Everything tasted better eaten outside after playing in the lake!

A favorite summer tradition of ours is our anual half-birthday party. Our kids were born in Nov. and Dec. and living in Michigan, outside parties are difficult to plan. So, we celebrate our half birthdays with a big to-do (minus the gifts). I dare say the best part is choosing a theme and working on games, crafts and food to match.

My favorite summer tradition is spending time with my sister in Idaho. I think I started going there almost every summer when I was 12. Now it wouldn't be summer for my kiddos if we don't go up there for a couple of weeks.
