this last week when the sun is shining pretty steadily; it brought to mind by favorite summer past-time -making strawberry jam with my mom. we would drive out to the burbs where the fields were, sent hours picking 3 huge flats (baby brother was given a lil ice cream bucket to fill) then we would head home and spend more time hulling them - yuck the worst job... mom always made it worth while by slicing a lrg amount adding a bit of sugar and then ice cream... she always know how to get more out of her 'work force' then magically in the morning, we could enjoy the fruit of our labour on freshly baked croissants... it never occured to me as a kid how much extra planning went into making sure she had ice cream in the house the 'night of' and got up early enough in the AM to go get croissants before Eric and I got up... but never fail year after year - it all magically appeared>>> and represented the Start of another wonderful Summer!!

We love to hang out at our swimclub until sundown once in a while on a lovely weekend evening. Most people are gone by then and it is SO relaxing!!

One of my favorite summer traddition is very simple: playing board games with my cousins at our grandma's beach house! In the afternoon, after spending the morning at the beach, we would sit around, and play and talk for hours! We are all grown up and still do that when we get together in the summer!

I think my favorite summer tradition is roasting marshmallows over an open fire. Yum Yum :) How many marshmallows can you fit in your mouth at one time? I've tried this, and the answer is 12 :)

Our favourite summer tradition - camping at a holiday park we go to every year. Canoing. Sitting by the pool reading a book and watching the kids swim. Spending some mobile-phone and internet free time with my sister and her family, and a whole lot of other people that have become friends. 2 weeks of total bliss.

When I was younger my mom and I would go out and pick two huge flats of strawberries every June. We would take them home and make enormous batches of jam to keep in the freezer. For the rest of the year we had summer right there waiting for us.

Having dinner on the patio--just us or friends and family, too. Living in the northeast with long, cold winters I can't get enough of eating outdoors when the weather is warm.
