Since moving to Washington (3.5 years ago) my favorite new summer tradition is visiting the lavender fields and cutting armsloads of fresh lavender to adorn and perfume our home.

our family summertradition used to be peasoup (which is a very hearty heavy wintermeal here) as soon as is became 30 degrees celcius (86 fahrenheit) in summer (we usually have a few of those days each summer). This started because it was on sale once in the supermarket in midsummer and stuck. Unfortunately my stomach can't take peasoup any longer but otherwise we would definately be holding on to that tradition ;-)

ICE CREAM, definitely. After breakfast, after lunch after dinner and anytime in between. Summer and ice creams go together.

Hi Ali! Great give-aways!!! Our cherry trees in the front yard are ripening as we speak-- usually the first cherries are ready to be made into a cobbler for the 4th of July weekend. We will have cherries out of the "yin yang" for 3 weeks and I make pie after cobbler after pie until they run out. Hot cobbler with ice cream ..... Yummy!

My favourite summer tradition? It's midsummers eve - having new potatoes, pickled herring, eggs, chives and sour cream with my family. Missed that this sumemr because DH is working abroad, so I'm looking forward to a belated celebration in August. :D

We just did our first summer in the tropics, so where we would have once been outside enjoying the sunshine, the emphasis this year was on keeping cool. Our new tradition is driving down onto the beach with friends to watch the sun set, sipping wine, eating prawns on ice and trying to catch a slight evening breeze. Beats being couped up with the aircon.

I love making our own iceblocks from fresh juice, freezing them and eating them whilst lazing in the pool on a really hot day!

our beach holiday starts our spring /summer. My mum and dad started taking my sisters and I when I was about 5. we have continued to go every year for 25 years and my husband and I are now taking our sons to the same place each year. This is a very special time for my family.

My favourite (though fairly recent) tradition would have to be sitting on the back step, drinking Pimms and Lemonade and reading Harry Potter. (I've read them all before, but a re-read is never a problem!)
