Yesterday We...

Yesterday we went to the Oregon State Capitol for Chris' swearing-in ceremony as a State Senator.
Chris was appointed to fill this seat by the local County Commissioners after Senator Vicki Walker was appointed to chair the Parole Board. It's been busy and exciting around here as he went through the process of seeking this appointment.
For those of you outside the US, this is the elected body that makes laws and sets budgets in our state (Oregon). We also have a National Congress that meets in Washington DC. They make laws for the entire United States. Each state has their own branches of government that mirror the set up at the national level.
Chris moved from the House of Representatives here in Oregon where there were 60 members to the Senate where there are 30. Chris represents somewhere around 115,000 people.
Simon walking in to the Capitol building in Salem.
Governor Kulongoski presided over the swearing in (he's the same Governor I have written about before) and both Chris' and my Mom were able to attend.

Simon was most excited about the cake of course.
Loving this little family of ours and I am so proud of Chris.

And one of my favorites that will be enlarged and framed.
For those of you interested in picking up one of the September Cocoa Daisy kits they are now available here. See my examples using the kit here.

I think I would be bursting with pride and excitement! Well done Chris. I don't suppose you are feeling any pressure with representing 115,000 people **gulp** :-). You will do an awesome job, I'm sure. Special photos on a special day.

Congratulations to you all! I just retired from the MD Senate as a Legislative Aide and I'm always happy to hear of someone who is willing to serve and help give politicians a good name again.

Ali this is great!!!! I went back to teaching at a continuation high school this year and I'm teaching American Government/Civics - the kids I work with are very leary of our governement and I'm working very hard to change that. Any chance Chris would write a letter to them & send us an autographed photo for my classroom? I have a wall for all the stuff I have from "real people" I've met along the way and this would be a great addition....
