Week In The Life : Tuesday
Tags:Hey there, how's it going?
Yesterday I took 128 photos (on Monday I took 92). Will I use them all? NO WAY. Many of them are repeats or different angles or blurry or trial images of the same subject. Next week, when I put the album together, I will go through each day and select the ones that best tell the story.
Any photos that don't make it into the album may be used to tell other stories in my regular scrapbooks. Maybe. And maybe not. One of the beautiful things about this project is that the photos themselves bring up other stories you may have been wanting to tell or you'll find things that are important to you that hold stories that you should tell.
I would love for you to share links to your favorite photo taken so far in the comments section. If you don't have a link you can just describe the shot and tell why you love it.There is magic in this process of capturing your everyday life.
I also wanted to re-post another of my favorite quotes about everyday life. This one's from Anna Quindlen:
I hope you have a great day today and I hope you roll with this process. Maybe you will write more or less today or maybe you will take a 100 photos or just a few - whatever you collect is just right and will give a peek into your daily life in April 2010.
Enjoy your Wednesday.
Here's a look at some of my favorite photos from Tuesday:

My journaling today was handwritten on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. I jotted down times & activities throughout the day. I'll post it next week when I show how I put my album together. I'm thinking I might just slip it into a page protector as a new page for Tuesday...

Ali, I love lots of things you do - but your fresh flowers everywhere are really a call to live in the present, to invest in one's own life. Thanks for being a source of reflection and inspiration.
I took 115 on Monday - mainly trying to capture my commute that includes 3 major highways. I took 45 yesterday. My favorite yesterday was husband and two sons, 16 and 15, piled on the couch, wrestling.
Loving this process. Charging my battery for today. My facebook mantra all week has been "Grab your camera. This is life."

awesome - I'm having fun w/ this process & am posting pictures & journaling on my blog.
P.S. I'm super jealous of the purple lilacs - I grew up in New England and this was one of my favorite parts of live up there - we always had lilac trees and they always signaled spring for me. I've lived in Florida since I graduated from high school - so something like 22 years now! And the Jacaranda Trees blooming in May here are pretty but don't smell like lilacs! I'm definately jealous for the lilacs.

I am blog hopping as I do every morning and I can't help but be impressed by the professionals you inspire. Do you even know how many professionally creative people are doing a week in the life? It's amazing to be such an inspiration to others. Thank you. I am loving seeing what they are all doing with it.

Happy Wednesday Ali,
I love coming here and seeing all your photos. So thankful to for showing us a way to document this time in our lives. My whole family is loving this process as well. They keep saying write it down, take a picture, keep this note, etc. The pictures you chose from yesterday are wonderful and full of real life, so hard to pick a good one. That sweet Anna with her smile with & without the pacifer, love seeing Simon laying asleep on Anna's carseat. Thanks so much for another poem, I've seen that one before and loved it. Is it possible for you to have a poem or something along those lines everyday or so, would love to put those in my album also. Ok, I'm off to grab my camera and take pictures again. Have a great day, oh I will download my picture soon.

I love taking photos, even more each day. I am in the second consecutive year doing the Project 365, and I think it is very worthwhile. Two recent photos that I liked were:
My niece as Tinker Bell for Brazil's Carnival: http://www.flickr.com/photos/repacheco/4373216487/
and a walk to the municipal market of Sao Paulo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/repacheco/4399310113/
Hope you enjoy!

Are all of those shots of you taken with a tripod? I'm impressed by how many pictures of yourself you've taken.

This project is so great to reflect on each day - so thank you for inspiring us.
Here's what I captured in Berlin, Germany. It's my first spring out of the US:

I think one of my favorite pics might be this one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/herdofsteph/4537915268/) of my husband. Something he does every morning, but I'm usually too busy with girls to stop and capture it.
My Tuesday is here: http://herdofsteph.blogspot.com/2010/04/week-in-life-tuesday.html. I've been letting my 6 yo capture some pictures of me and I know (while I'm not liking the pictures of myself in this early pregnant stage) I will be thankful for the pictures! : )

The one photo I am taking everyday is one of myself (my son is taking it every morning before we leave for work/school)
? About the photos you have taken---You said you won't use them all (I understand that part)--others will go onto other layouts/projects (I understand that part)--BUT what about those left overs--do you print them all--do they just stay on your camera or computer--what happens to them?

I have been posting some pics and notes on my blog every night and my favorite pictures so far are probably the ones of the guys standing outside with the rain clouds in the sky and the screen shot of the weather. It's been a rainy week and I love it! I've also been sitting down at night and editing my picture files down to the ones I actually want to keep.

I am taking a picture every morning of the clock when I come downstairs. The rest of my pictures are to record the ordinary moments of my day and to help me record my story. I am thinking a lot about your advice to take a backward perspective and trying to record a glimpse of my life that might help my own daughters know who I am (was). My mom has alzheimer's and I am sorry for not having the opportunity to know about the ordinary moments in her life before the forgetting began.

I love that quote by Quindlan! Thanks for sharing that! I will be starting my week next week in hopes of following through each day, but I am observing alot more this week, in a way prepping myself, trying to notice the details and the little things and just be in the moment!

I was wondering how you get so many clear shots of you in the photos also? In camera timer with A tripod? or do you use a wireless remote? I was considering purchasing one.

Hi Ali, I have posted my fav everyday photos from my week in the life on my blog; www.scrapbits.typepad.com
I have a shot of my son's mini sticks and dirty, worn out tennis ball- which shows his current obsession. A shot of his wet feet as he stands in the water run off from our pool opening. A shot of the kids walking home from school. A shot of them sitting together putting on their shoes. And a shot of my daughter putting on her lipgloss (she is 7!) her current obsession.
I love the capture of what we are doing and how we are living....RIGHT NOW.
So very cool- thanks Ali.

Because I am working on finishing up my son's high school graduation album, I'm not doing DIL this year. But, I will share my favorite moment from yesterday (no photo since my camera is in the shop getting the shutter cleaned): my 18-year old tutors kids in our local elementary school's after-school program. He was told by the Director (who had spoken with the several teachers) that 2 kids who were close to having to repeat Kindergarten are now getting to move on to 1st grade due to his help with their reading skills. Wow, I am still bursting with pride. The kids love him and I attribute that to him having two younger sisters (4 and 6). He knows how the younger kids tick.
Sorry, just had to share.
And I love your photos. They are real. They are not staged. You have stuff on the counters just like the rest of us.

Ali, question about your post yesterday concerning the week long drawing. I posted and it did not show up. Is there a problem going on?

Love your pictures, Ali. Makes me realize what else I want to capture.
