We moved this summer, as chaotic as it was packing, I really enjoyed going through all of my craft supplies and picking out my faves to keep. It is all in storage at the moment, but we will move into our apartment in a week and a half. I love the idea of settling in a getting organized into a new home, although it always takes longer than I think it will. Here's to not getting stressed out in the process and ending the day with a good beer, a glass of wine, or a gin and tonic.
Enjoy your new space.
being a military spouse I've moved a lot. The best thing about moving is being able to go through your stuff, purge and make room for new possibilities.
Lots of work ahead of you! How exciting!!!
New home, new memories!
Can't wait to see your new space...you do incredible space planning and if you've got more space comin'....Yippee for you!
You got me thinking after your tweet last night when you were cleaning out a drawer. If you are like me you find that there are lots of drawers with "stuff" in them. I wonder if you could take a wine case/box (not that I would necessarily have an empty wine box around, lol!) with the cardboard inserts/dividers still in; label each area (pencils, rubber bands, hardware, etc); and instead of trying to sort each drawer, you would have a common place to toss "stuff" when you came across it. If there were categories that required bigger space, just bend a divider back and make a larger section. Everyone could toss in the box as they started packing their space. Heavens, you may not have to go to Staples/Office Max for months! (Note to self: would this work just trying to clean/sort messy house?)
oh my heavens! I am so laughing! Your comment reminded me of the day I moved from Toronto. The movers knew I was moving from a furnished two room apartment SO they assumed there would not be much to do. The entire time the movers were there they shook their heads and said aloud,"you have too much, you have too much!"
keep your head above water! it's so hard to move, especially with two kids, let alone all your stuff. can't wait to see your new place and the amazing things you do with them. :)
Wow, I'm been following you and how did I miss the pending move? I love your current home, the light, the love, may the next owner love it as much! Now, details, details....can't wait to see the new place. (I follow Kelly Rae too, how funny you are moving at the same time.) Good thing about moving, it's a time to clean and refresh and start a new! Best of luck and best to S&A in their adjustments.
Knowing you Ali, or knowing you through this blog etc., I suspect you will try to relish the process...packing,wondering where in the h* something is/went, as much as you anticipate the goal of a new house and more space.
It's all good, so just keep breathing!and taking pictures of course. Inquiring minds want to see!
As one who has never moved, I got married almost 32yrs ago and live in the same house (don't hate me), I have no idea what it is like. I am almost a little jealous. Can't wait to see the new office/craft room.
I guess I didn't realize you were moving. Good luck with the move and I hope you'll have plenty of room for a new studio in your new home. Can't wait to see pics. Blessings.
When we moved from our first house in to our current home, I cried so hard. It was our first house as a newly married couple and the home we brought our babies to. We worked so hard on making "our first home" so special. We loved restoring old homes so much we packed up and moved three blocks away to our current home. This is the home where are girls are becoming lovely young ladies, this is the home where we welcomed two crazy wiener dogs and this is the home that I am STAYING in.
Best of luck on your move.
what a great perspective on moving! we are in the throws of it as well. just moved 10 minutes away. very much in the "unpackin and finding new homes for things" stage. while still finishing up the "clean up and paint to get ready for renters" stage at the old place.
thanks for the reminder to check my perspective and let this time be inspiring.

So excited for you. When we were raising our boys we moved so many times that swore we'd never move again. It's been about eight years and I'd love to move again. I'm looking forward to living vicariously through you. I love your interior design skills and color choices. Maybe I will be inspired to redecorate.
