December Daily™ 2012 | Foundation Pages
Welcome to December Daily™ 2012.
If this is your first year I invite you to check out my December Daily™ page that includes links to all my previous albums. Some years they have been much more decorated in advance using a wide variety of products and other times they have started simple.
Just as in years past, these pages are just a beginning. This album will be built over the course of the month as I fill it with photos, words and products as the month progresses.
As with all projects I embark on, December Daily™ can be anything you want it to be. Make it work for you. I've gotten into a routine the last few years using printable daily pages that has simplified the process for me. I love having a structure set up in advance that I then build upon during December and add as little or as much glitter as I want.
I'm starting even simpler this year.
In past years I've included overlays for each day - this year I decided to skip that step.
For 2012 I decided to go with a 4x6 album (included in the sold-out kit from Studio Calico). I wanted something smaller this year, something to mix things up.
Here's a look at how I'm starting things off for 2012:
On the spine of the album I adhered a wood veneer tree (embossed with silver glitter Zing) and stamped "celebrating December" using staz on black cherry ink and the 2012 December Daily™ stamp set.
I repeated the same tree + stamp on the inside cover.
My first page in the album is a clear transparent page (included with the kit). You could totally use any overlays for this, including ink jet transparencies or if you are lucky you might still have some awesome Hambly printed overlays in your stash.
On both sides of the transparent page I adhered a Heidi Swapp Disco Star and ran it through my sewing machine a couple times with red thread. Around the star I added some silver jewel embellishments (again on both sides of the transparency).
You can see the back is a repeat of the front here.
For the next page I used one of the chipboard pages included with the album. My plan is to add more of these chipboard pages throughout the month when it makes sense with the story I'm telling.
I used cream paint on top of the chipboard and then used the long number and sentiment stamp from the 2012 December Daily™ stamp set to create the diagonal pattern. I alternated Colorbox Silver Chalk ink and white opaque Zing and red glitter zing with the stamping. The outside lines were created by running the whole thing through my sewing machine.
The back of that page is blank for now. Most likely I'll cover it with a photo at the start of the month.
As an into page I used another of the clear transparent pages.
I used the "hello December" stamp + red glitter zing onto white cardstock and cut around the outside. I then laid that onto the transparency and cut around the edge (if I was to remove the red arrow you'd see a transparent arrow underneath).
On the transparency I created dots by painting on top of a 12 x 12 Doodling Template (Swiss Dot) from The Crafter's Workshop.
On the back I cut another arrow using green pattern paper and added a joy badge on the top.
For my foundation pages this year I designed a new set of 4x6 overlays that can be easily printed or added on top of a photo before printing.
I've been doing foundation pages using printables for the last few years and what I love about this is it takes some of the guess work out. I establish a base foundation and I build from there. Some days I just print a photo, add some text into the pre-printed 4x6 card and call it good. Other days if I feel like doing more I have space to play - add letter stickers, pattern paper, multiple photos, etc.
The 2012 4x6 December Daily™ set includes two designs - a top and a bottom (I mixed them up in mine) and printable PDF files in black, red, gray, and green.
The 6x8 and 12x12 versions will be available later this week. Please note that the 12x12 version does not include PDF files. The 12x12 can be easily re-sized to 8x8 or 6x6 if that is the size you are choosing for this year.
Here's what the PDF looks like when you open it:
I printed them out on white Bazzill cardstock (both gray and green). Even if I don't use them all I could slip some into Project Life.
Here's a little map that might be helpful if you are going with the 4x6 size too:
Here's a look at a few different ways you can bring these together:
The package includes PNG files that can be added on top of a photo before printing. It also includes a blank file (no days or dates) that I used in the above image to just stamp a number line.
Most days I imagine my pages will look something like this:
4x6 card in one pocket - most likely for journaling with a photo on the facing page. I most often do a spread but like having the option to do just one page too.
Above you can see that blank card again (included with the 4x6 set) where I just stamped the numbers. Lots of options here.
And here's a look at all the 25 days I've set up in advance, mainly using a combination of washi tape, strip stickers, small embellishments, strips of pattern paper and ribbon:
Again, a super simple way to set myself up for documenting December. Here's a quick video overview:

I love the colors! I know the SC kit is sold out, but is there a way you can give us links to the papers used in the kit? I would love to have some of the beautiful papers!
re papers: I love the gold spot velum shown at the end of your video...am very keen to know where it comes from as a quick search has come up blank.
I found the gold polka dot velum... Crate Paper Sleigh Ride Gold Vellum Paper
hannahK, I believe that is "Gold Foil Vellum Treasured Terrace 12X12 Dear Lizzy 5Th & Frolic Paper" - it's in stock at 2Peas. On sale too. ;)
I found a 6x8 album at Archivers - it is the Snap Binder....not sure if you can get them other places as well. THey come with some page protectors and you can buy extra ones as well. Plus there are some cool papers that come with - I got the red one and some of the papers can be used for my DD album! :)

Re: albums -- there is definitely a dearth of available small albums this season! I ended up buying a 6x6 American Crafts from Archiver's Annex -- the one with the red cloth spine and cardboard covers -- because it was the only place I could find that had both an album and page protectors in stock! Good luck.
SC has 6x8 albums (the Handbook line) and although they are out of stock right now, I believe they have them in at Two Peas. Just put in Studio Calico in the search engine. good luck.
you might want to check the twopeas board. i've read on the SC community that some of the ladies will be selling their albums once they receive it.
Also, is there any way for those of us who didn't get a SC kit to get our hands on a 4x6 album so we can use your foundation page template? Or I'd be happy with a 6x8 album ... I just can't seem to find these sizes anywhere!

I haven't done a December Daily previously, but I think I would like to do one this year. I love, love, love the overlays you made for this year and want to use them. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should use them in my Project Life album or create a separate December Daily album. I'll have to go back through your previous years and see how you do both - the December Daily and the Project Life albums. I worry they might end up repetitive for me. But I'm loving your foundation pages, so I'm getting excited about the idea of doing one this year!
I'll be doing a post on doing December Daily and Project life at the same time in the coming weeks :)

I picked up the 4x6 package from DD over the weekend -- thanks so much for including the print-ready pdfs! I decided to print the red set for my journaling cards and having it all ready to print was sooooooooooo helpful.

Truly simply beautiful. I love how you stitched through the heavy cardboard. I need to try that, i am assuming with a larger needle like a size 16 maybe? Thanks for sharing.
I just used a regular needle, whatever I had in the machine. Didn't put any special one in for that part of the project.

I'm all for the 4X6 - it looks great Ali! Any thoughts as to how you might incorporate larger items such as school pages, programs, brochures that kind of thing?? Just trying to think ahead....
I'll probably put larger things into Project Life or cut them down for a "pieces of the whole" look.

This will be my sixth year doing December Daily. I just wanted to say that your first few posts about it each year always signal the start of the holiday season to me. I love checking your site over my lunch hour for some midday inspiration and creative thinking. I have done a small board book, digital photo book, 6x8.5 binder, 8x8 album... pretty much the gamut! This year will be a Snap binder with 4x6 and 3x4 pockets. Really looking forward to following along again.

SO excited to do DD this year...I bought the kit last year but since there wasn't much Christmas going on at home (the BIG thing was sticking my vinyl tree to the pantry door!) I never worked on it. But this year I have a new place sans my sister's cats so I am going all out with the decorations and have already planned photos in my head for each day! CAn't wait for SC kit to arrive! Although, I also have 3 or 4 other Christmas album kits to work on...good thing I am going to two 3-day retreats this month, LOL!

I actually turned on Pandora to Christmas music while I read this post...I have already begun gathering my December Daily supplies for this coming season. I haven't yet begun to put my foundation pages together yet but plan on it very soon. Thanks for the inspiration. This will be my 5th year doing this album and it is one of my favorite things of the Holiday Season...I love it.
Love that.

This is where I hiccup. Digital or paper ... paper or digital. I've done both - and enjoyed both. I loved my Viovio book last year - so compact, yet bursting with information. BUT ... Christmas embellishments & paper is so fun to play with.
Stop the insanity! ;-)

Just had to pause the video and offer commiseration on the dumped-out Zing. When my little girl (then 3.5) did that in the spring with my orange Zing, she added black India ink to the mix. The ink came off the hard floor surprisingly well!

gorgeous as always Ali. I especially love the white dots stencilled onto the transparency. I missed buying a kit but I have just decided to use an Amy Tangerine day book I already have. Trying to keep things simple and uncomplicated!

LOVING the 4x6 format. I'm an all stuff in one (or two!!!) album kind of scrapper...all this is going to be done digitally for me and printed and slid into PL digital templates. 4x6 in those pockets and the 3x4 journaling cards in place as well...easy!!! If I decide, I can always print them out and put into a simple album. I just find that I like the simplicity of everything in one place. If it requires to much craftiness, I end up quitting by the second week. Excellent!

Hey Ali,
Love your foundation pages and the smaller size. Great, simple and so much potential for the season ahead. I have my album all ready to go too. Can't wait.
