Super Huge Update : No More Diapers
Tags:Now this, my friends, is BIG TIME.
We have been working on this casually for awhile now, not worrying, but encouraging. I woke up on Saturday morning, put on his frog undies on him and annouced, "No more diapers. Don't pee on the frogs." And that was it.
I think he was simply used to the diapers. They were easy. He didn't have to get up and go to the bathroom when he was in the middle of watching Dora. (And seriously, who wants to have to get up when you are watching your favorite show with no commercials?)
Now he announces, "Uh Oh," but it is an advance uh oh, signaling that it is time to pull those pants down and get to the toilet.
Sent him to school this morning in underwear and sweatpants for easy pull down. Excited to see how it goes at school.
Now that is a GREAT Mother's Day present.
One other little Simon story for this lovely Monday. Last Friday we were at the local pizza parlor with some of my girlfriends and their kids. This is one of those places where they have an awesome play room. Parents can sit on one side of the glass and eat and chat and the kids can run like crazy, slide, play in the balls, etc.
We were sitting there chatting when I look up and I see Simon, my dear sweet little dude, holding hands with some sweet little girl. Walking and holding hands, playing and holding hands, him following her and her following him. Seriously was so happy. First to see him connecting with another child, second to see him touching another child that he does not know at all (the little girl was not one of my friend's kids). I went in there to help him with his shoe and then turned around to walk back out - I heard him say, "go on slide." I turned back towards them and watched as they climbed up into the structure together. Melts my heart to see him interacting like that...it is huge.
So basically, Simon rocks.

Ali,
That is the BEST Mother's Day present, to watch your little guy taking care of a friend, a new friend at that. What a sweet thing for you to see...I'm all tearry eyed for you right now! Oh, I'm gonna be an emotional mess when menopause hits, but this stuff is soooo important! You can learn to use the toilet anytime, but compassion for another human being is very serious stuff...and he gets it!!!!!
So happy for you and your family right now!

Hi Ali--I had *Simon thoughts* all day yesterday. Wondering how he did not peeing on the frogs.....
I think it's such a strange phenomenon to have all these people who *know* you, but you don't know them...some total stranger was thinking about Simons potty training all day yesterday...I so hope he *did it*!
Thanks for opening up your life..

Ali,
The feeling you get from seeing your little one connect with another child is HUGE. Aiden is also really starting to relate to other little people and not just adults. SUCH an exciting change in our house. So glad to see simon dude progressing so well.

Ali, I'm crying. Yes your pregnant sister in law is a little hormonal, but really I have some sense of how big of a deal both these breakthroughs are for you. I am SO happy for you guys. Amazing how a pair of frog underwear can bring you to tears in the morning. Love you. Liz

Yay, Simon!
I come here for scrapping inspiration but I love the Simon stories! Nothing beats the end of diapers:-) And I love the fact that, via your generosity with your stories, so many of us, who have never met Simon, care about him and are pulling for him and sending him good thoughts.
Go Simon Go!

Hipppeee for Simon!! You are doing an awesome job Ali!!
I remember the day my daughter decided no more diapers, she was about 3. We had moved into our new house and she was going to get to sleep in a big girls bed. Someone had packed the diapers and we couldn't find them. We told her we had no more diapers and that she needed to not pee in her big girl bed. That is all it took!! New house, new bed......it was GREAT!!!
Sometimes it is the simpliest things.....like no peeing on the frogs! CUTE!!!
