Why is it?
Why is it that you never really realize how much stuff you have until you have to move?
I consider myself as someone who is good at purging. Good at getting rid of stuff I am not using. But man, we have a lot of stuff packed into this little place. And don't even get me started on the amount of stuff in the garage. Yikes. I was over at the new place today and right now (since we have not moved in yet LOL) I can fit my car in there so rather than having to carry boxes into the house out in the rain I can just do it from inside the garage - talk about awesome.
The wireless and the cable and the phone are getting hooked up at the new place tomorrow so my computer will be moving...that pretty much makes it official.
Notice the beer on my desk? Totally needing that after today. Had a few of those moments where I just wanted to cry because I was feeling so overwhelmed. At those moments I jumped on the computer, zoned out for a few, and then got back into packing mode again.
I am planning on moving most of my studio stuff over to the new place myself. Most of it is in baskets already and I retain control over just where it goes. Ah, control. My friend. Continually working on letting go...
And a scrap update: the Oregon Scrapbook Convention is coming up in March and I am going to be teaching a class this year called Discover Home. Sign ups will be on the CK site soon.
I am totally with you. Day 7 in our new house and reading your blog could make my eye twitch. Today is the first day online. Good luck.

Will you be teaching at the CKC in Nashville?

Hope the move goes smoothly. What a crazy time of year to have to deal with that! Just keep taking those deep breath/sanity breaks when you need them. Peace. :)

my best moving tip (from many years of military moves) - i taped different colors of construction paper to the boxes packed each room. when movers arrived at the new house all they had to do was match the color on the box to the color taped to the door! sure saved me alot of answering - "ma'am, which room do these boxes go in?"!!!
best of luck with your move and post of picture of the new house when you get a chance!!

I hate moving. but it is all worth it when you are in the place that is home. I can't wait to get to that place....someday.
Good luck, my friend.

Having moved last month... I feel your pain. Although it was rough, I did love the fresh start feeling of our new place. ~:-D

Right with you, sister. We moved last Friday and just put up the Christmas tree a few days ago. I told my husband, I don't care about the clothes or funiture but my scrapbook supplies are the priority and get placed first in house - hee hee! Good luck. It will be over soon.

You have my empathy. We have to move too, gotta find a new place for Feb 1st. What kind of sadistic landlord gives you notice just before Christmas?! I was signed up for your class in Maple Ridge, BC, but had to cancel because I'm sure I'll be up to my eyeballs in boxes right around then (mid-Jan).
May all our packing/moving/unpacking activities be easy from here on in :)

That's so funny because the beer was one of the first things I noticed in the photo!
Good luck, girl. You can do it.

Hi Ali,
1st... so glad you had a blast at Disney
2nd... if I wasn't on the opposite side of the country, I'd be over to help you move...and drink a beer!...then we could go to another flea market.

Ahhh. Moving. We did that two years ago the beginning of Dec, and I was seven months pregnant to boot. I would totally have the beer in there with me to ease the stress of packing, maybe the six-pack. Have a great rest of your week. BTW, this is the first time I've responded to your blog. It's great!!! You rock!!!

Hi Ali, we moved the week before Christmas 2 years ago (my son is 8 and he has lived in 8 houses, so I am an expert!) We still have stuff in boxes in the garage that haven't been unpacked - I am guessing I don't really need what is in them! Anyway good luck and enjoy the new house and can't wait to go to Disneyland with my boys one day - it is just such a long way from Sydney!!

My DH and I sat on the floor of where we live now and split a beer while we were moving... then we walking to 7-11 for a six-pack when we realized one wouldn't be enough! Moving+Christmas=Need for Beer. I am hoping and praying it's all as easy as possible for you. Have a great holiday Ali!

Hope you'll have a wonderful holiday at the new place.
Totally agree with you on having so much stuff.
In my case, it is no one but me who bought all the stuff.
Scary... :(

I feel you pain. I've had to move 5 times in 9 years!!! With no help whatsoever and two of those tomes I was pregnat and with big cases of all day morning sickness...
But when you're finally done, it's such a great feeling to start to fit into your new house and start turning it into a home... It kinda makes all the work worth it.
Have fun and keep the beers close by.
Anilu.

I hope your packing is going well... I would say call a pal for help, but if you are like me, you want to pack the boxes yourself! So, take those zone out breaks, read some blogs, surf the web, and yep, relax with that brewsky...throw in a few nachos if necessary. I guess that is my prescription for today's moving madness! And remember, Christmas morning for Simon won't be about the new house being all "perfect". It will be you, him, and Chris, together, enjoying some new goodies, relaxing, remembering, and making a new holiday memory...an emptier house may just be the perfect canvas for that! :)
