Jodi Picoult marathon.
Don't know what took me so long but I finally picked up a Jodi Picoult novel in the Salt Lake airport. By the time I got home I had read 250 pages of My Sister's Keeper and finished it up this morning. It was an awesome, heart-wrenching, take-me-to-another-place novel. It was so good I had to go to the used book store today to stock up on as many of her other books as I could. Already started another one: The Pact.
Been waiting to find a new author I could devour like this one...

i read my sisters keeper first - well, you couldnt see that coming could you? I died from upset and hurt around a swimming pool on holiday. Real tears whilst my baby and hubby splashed in the pool!

I'm a huge Jodi Picoult fan myself. I just started Keeping Faith last night, and it's really good so far.
The Pact ROCKS!!! Loved that book!
Have fun reading and keep the tissues handy!

I love all her books. But my favorite author of all time is Barbara Kingsolver. If you haven't read Bean Trees - run to the nearest bookstore and get it! She just released a new non-fiction book about moving back to KY and embarking on a quest to eat locally grown food. I can't wait to get it!

I am so glad that you have discovered her!!! I just lve everything that she writes!! Her newest one really hit home with all that is going on in todays world. The thing about her is the research and detail she gets into. New one comes out in 2008!!!

I'm torn with her right now. I like her style and I too read The Sister's Keeper very quickly -- but I thought the ending was way too Hollywoodish. I am currently reading Vanishing Acts but it's going slow; kinda bored with it -- she seems to give us a lot of unnecessary scenes, I don't know, maybe it's just me. But I do want to read The Pact and Nineteen Minutes. So, I will keep giving her a chance. One of my fave authors is Alice Hoffman.

Oh I absolutely loved that book! Read it in one single sitting! I didn't get nearly as sucked in the Vanishing Act as My Sister's Keeper so I am curious, are you getting the same reaction to the Pact?

read "My Sisters Keeper" and it's just so incredible. Must have recommended it to everyone I met who reads. She's such an incredible author. Loved "The Pact" too. She tackles the tough subjects and makes you really think about them.

Me too. Me too.
You must try Barbara Kingsolver - start with the Poisonwood Bible (she's an incredible author, and she's very "today" in the best sense of the word from a politically relevant standpoint - from one Dem to another).

Oh wait: Anne Lamott (Annie Lamott) raised a son on her own and talks about it in "Operating Instructions"....the difficulties and pleasantries without mincing words...funny and sad as hell. Read lots of her books (dysfuctional families - mostly all true). She got really religious about 5+ years ago (not that that's a bad thing at all), but it changed her writing style so my recom. is start w/early works because she becomes very endearing...

i tried and tried to figure out which jp novel i liked best...but every time someone mentioned a different one, i changed my mind!! they really are ALL amazing books...each took me less than three days to read...i could not put them down once i started...first time i read her was when my husband and i were going out on the lake and i needed a new book to read and had forgotten to bring one from home, so we stopped at walmart and i grabbed my sisters keeper...soon as we got home...i had to go get another one of her books...now i am hooked and wait for the next one!!!
enjoy...it really does not matter WHAT novel you choose to read next...they are all guaranteed to deliver!
