Gotta love...
Tags:that the school just called to let me (us) know that Simon is doing just fine, that he is doing everything that the other kids are doing, and it is all ok.
Just a teeny, tiny (all right, a really big) sigh of relief and a couple of "thank you so much for calling" before letting her off the phone.
Maybe now I can get some work done :).

Aww...this is so fun to read about! I can't wait to hear about the rest! (And smart move, by the way, getting Simon involved in early interventions. I am a psychologist and the difference in children who are helped early on is amazing!) Which I'm sure you already knew. Good for you guys!!!

Yay for Simon and Yay for you guys!! My boy started school this year (in January Australian time!) and he is just LOVING it! I know what you mean about will he eat? Will he get on the right bus? etc. It's such a learning curve for everyone, but it is sooooo exciting (just as much, if not more for them!!) Hope you're having a great day - even though i KNOW you can't stop thinking about Simon :)

What a big day for Simon (and you as his Mommy).....and thanks for sharing this big day with us and allowing us to cheer him on! I am convinced that these experiences are just as much about shaping us as parents as they are about the kids' big steps.

What an awesome school! They know how to communicate with the parents, and are in touch with the emotions of the first day! That is a great School! Happy Thoughts for Simon today!

Ali,
I have a soon-to-be 20 year old special needs son. I remember saying to his kindergarden teacher that first day, "I'll just be out in the parking lot today, in case you need me." :)
He did WAY better than me, I know.
I'm tearing up a little remembering my mommas heart aching that day, knowing you felt the same way today.
Blessings to you and your sweet family. Thank you for sharing yourself so openly with all of us. And thank you for helping me remember my sweet little boy.

A great big hooray for teachers who realize how nervous us mommies can be and can find the time to call and let us know that our child is having a good first day and everything is ok.
I was lucky enough that my DS teacher did this his first day of kindergarten too so I know exactly the kind of relief you felt.
So hard to let them go and such a great feeling that they are ready to go and can do so many awesome things without us. SO many mixed emotions.
