Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

Thank you for all the give aways.
current favorite: altering the photos themselves. Photojojo always has good ideas, distressing the photos, journaling right on them, painting on them, using them as pages in mini books and layering transparencies on top of them. This results in using less photos but larger prints and I love it!

My favorite scrapbooking technique these days is using rub-ons. They're so easy and add such a nice touch to a layout.

My creative technique right now is playing with found objects, adding them to my scrapbooking pages and mini-books. Love that they found their way to me. :)
Thanks for sharing the book ideas!

Your give aways are the greatest!
Let's see...my favorite creative technique lately would have to be making dinner by adding "super powers" in it, so that my boys will eat it....
oh and with scrapbooking it would be to add black ink around every photo to make it stand out a bit more!

I have been watching Suzi Blu's videos for some time (she's on YouTube) and finally had the courage to to put paint to canvas. I really enjoy mixed media. I now need the confidence to show my work to people without feeling embarrassed.
Thanks for the chance to win :-)

I have been very into sewing things lately...fabric to fabric or fabric to paper, whatever. There is so many fabulous fabrics out there...they make me drool!

I am currently taking an advanced typography class so my favorite technique these days is playing around with type and getting really creative with it. Thinking outside the box and using letterforms to make shapes, etc.

I pretty much stick to digital, except when I make a mini-album--then I like to add a few "real" pretties to the pages.
(The book looks like it's really inspirational.)

As long as there is scissors, glue and a silent spot in my busy schedule I am fine - inspiration-reading is what I long for now when the evenings are getting darker and I am allowed to put some logs into the fireplace, sip some tea and hopefully enjoy a new book-friend ;)

My favorite "technique" is trying to find just the right combination of regular, everyday "stuff" to add to my cards and/or layouts; things like washers from the hardware department, lace, fabrics, beads, canvas, the paper stuff of life, wood...as opposed to dedicated scrapbooking products. That kind of combination of art makes me very happy.
Cheers,
Karen Geckler

I am intrested in painting the chipboard the same color as the page. I am loving that look and want to do something with my kids back to school pictures and that process.
