Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

I'm really exited about ATC's atm! I just finished a vintage-swap and have entered two more swaps:) It's fun to work on such a small space and they turn out so cute! I also love getting something that someone else made:)

Hello Ali. My favorite creative technique right now is one that I just used yesterday. Not sure if it's a 'technique' or not but I have 3 drawers of misc. bits and pieces that don't really have a home...some days (like yesterday) I challenge myself to use ONLY things from one of the drawers to use on a layout (except for cardstock). This really pushes me to create a layout using limited supplies and not wasting SO much time going throw all of my stuff looking for the 'best' sticker or whatever embellishment I think I need. The great thing about this 'technique' is that I always end up with layouts that I totally LOVE and I keep wondering why I even need to buy new stuff when I've got all this great stuff already!! LOL!! Thanks for the chance to win! peace and blessings, Cindy B

I'm just finishing up Tena Springer's 52 Card Pick Up Class at Big Picture Scrapbooking, so I have 52 new techniques to play with.
My favorite would probably be stamping with VersaMark ink and then coloring the image with chalks. My 2 DD's love this too.

Life has been busy this last month - sending my oldest back to college and my youngest off to kindergarden. So, I'm into small things that I can fit into little bits of time. I purchased Creative Memories new tag maker and have been having a blast making all kinds of tags. I'm using vintage maps, dictionary pages, flowers and bling. I'm using up lots of my stash which is a very good thing.

COLOR!!! I love to use a variety of papers when I scrapbook and experiment with different combinations. There have been times when I have been scrapbooking with friends and they look at my papers and tell me "no way!!". Those are some of my favorite pages.

Hi Ali! My favorite 'technique' is sewing on my layouts and paper projects. Nothing new but I can't do a page without it! Somehting a little more creative... I am enjoying making masks with cut Cricut shapes and painting, gessoing, stitching... around the shape for a beautiful image from the negative space. Thanks for being such an inspiration. -Alisa

My favorite creative technique these days is journaling. Getting the stories on paper is the first step for me towards actually creating the scrapbook pages.

my favorite creative technique lately is to create something digitally and then transferring it to something - fabric, canvas, etc via inkjet transfer.

I'd have to say right now I am really enjoying incorporating "other" things into my books --- it's a different way to use random things -- I try to not overwhelm what I am working on.

Hi Ali
Sad to have missed you at CPR and hope all is going well w/your pregnancy. It's good that you are taking it slow.
I can't say I have a favorite I use...it really depends on the mood. I will go into a sewing thing and then switch into stamping, then paint. Artfest sounds very interesting but I've always been intimated by all the mixed medium...I love it but I think it's more like I feel like it's a whole new world once I step foot thru that door of crazy mixed medium.

I'm trying to learn it's okay to "thicken things up". I love texture, but have always been afraid of the bulky look. So recently b/c I love working with acrylic and transparencies, I love the StazOn inks and adding rinestones for glimmer!
Thanks for yet another great chance at a give-a-way!
Glad you are feeling well and enjoying your pregnancy!

Water Soluble Oil Pastels are so much fun to play with. You can draw with them and use paintbrushes to blend the colors or you can dip the tip in water and draw with it from there! Very vibrant colors in my art journal to make me happy!

Scrapbooking - I am ALL about the words and pictures, like you. But I would love something to encourage me to journey deeper inside and figure out MY creativity and how to express it in scrapbooking, quilting, guitar playing, cooking...

My favorite creative technique right now is stamping. I recently took a card making class to get back into the groove of things and it has really inspired me! Stamping has always been something I really love and it's feeling really good to be inspired again.
