Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My favorite technique is...I guess, mixed media. I love a little bit of everything combined together to make something wonderful. :) My favorites are the non-traditional scrapbooking. Like using an old piece of cardboard or junk mail to create an album...so fun!

I just love to scrap book anything these days. Looking through some of my old scrap pages and seeing all the net stuff I saved as the kids were growing up and putting it in with their pictures really makes the page!

Hi Ali,
Would love one of the books for some inspiration. I am in the midst of 're-doing' my daughter's baby book, and am enjoying rub-ons and some stamping, which is new to me.

I have always been passionate about giving to those who have influenced me. My life has been very blessed with kind, wonderful people. I love to take a everyday 'gift' object and put my own spin on it - personalizing it for the recipient. Making it 'just so' so that it reflects them, letting them know how thankful I am.

I am keeping a "Sentence a Day" notebook for the year of 2008. It includes a thought or an idea I had related to scrapbooking, childrens activities, funny little 2 year old sayings, or even what we did that day. This is also where I stick any little tidbit items(stickers, memorabilia, etc.) related to those thoughts or activities. It's nice to go back and read through when I do a layout or mini album, and refresh my memory.
Cool books by the way, can't wait to check them out.

Ali, you are always so generous (must run in your family!!!). Thanks for this opportunity.
Lately, I've been into experimenting with mixed media digitally. I love to paint, scan, then mix it all up in CS3; Digital Collage I guess. (I can't spill the beans quite yet, but if you visit us at Illustrating Stories next week, you'll see what I mean.)
