Three Things : Lines (and a Designer Digitals giveaway)

Threethingslines

One of the easiest ways I have found to add journaling to my projects is to incorporate products that include lines just waiting for words. They invite words.

[ Or I can always just pull out the pen + ruler and get those lines on there myself. Whatever is least complicated at the moment tends to be my choice. ]

Here's a look at some of my favorite products that showcase the simple beauty of lines:

Karen Russell Narratives Scalloped Lined Paper : Probably one of my all time favorite lined papers (next to the old Making Memories Ledger paper). I love that bit of scallop around the edge.

Technique Tuesday's Storyteller's Ledger Stamp : A great stamp for jotting down information and telling bits of a story on layouts, cards, minibooks, etc. Completely versatile.

Luxe Simple Lined Double-Sided Paper : Quickly becoming a favorite, this lined paper is a part of Luxe's Simply Luxe line (essentially lines + dots). Check out the grid, ledger, and pinstriped verisions as well.

Mug Memo Notebook from Fishs Eddy : This mug inspired the line theme this week. Such a happy mug. And watch out for lots of other cool things in this shop. Check out the other memo/line-inspired mugs and trays here.

Leave a comment below with your favorite tip for getting words down on your projects (and not leaving them blank for a "someday-down-the-road-I-will-add-the-journaling"). To get words down on my projects, I keep a little notebook where I jot down things I want to remember. I tend to do my journaling first, so I know how much of a mat or general space I need to for text, and then build the project around that. Thanks!

My favorite are the Heidi Swapp journaling spots. I use them all the time. They also come in handy for labeling things around the house.

with my digital layouts, I journal immediately. on paper, I always use a little tag to make sure to get the important info such as who, when, where and ususally just write the story on the layout where it fits. I try to do this immediately also. Can't wait for the digital stuff to come out! yay!

Oh my goodness, that mug is cool!! :) As far as your question, I try and keep a basket of favorite pens right at my fingertips, as well as a few journaling stamps or labels/stickers close by. Sometimes breaking the journaling up into smaller bites of information has helped a story not seem as overwhelming.

oops! Forgot my tip... I dedicate time to add the journaling. I keep unjournaled pages in a folder and journal them all at once. That helps me keep organized and keeps the creativity flowing when I'm working on a ton of lo's.

Like you, I often refer to my blog post from the day the pictures were taken. It's great to have the journaling from the day the pictures were taken and the event still fresh in my mind.
    Thanks!

For my journaling, I often times refer to my blog for tidbits of what Tanner said or did. I also will grab whatever is close by and write it down and put it in my scrap space for when I scrap again.

B/C I am totally afraid of my own handwriting (yes, STILL) I LOVE to print journaling and then cut it into strips. It's my all time favorite way to get the all important words down.

Write on photos, write ontop of your embellishments, write around the photos, if you have something private to say, write it inside a pocket, tuck it inside the layout, use white pen ontop of other elements, use journaling blocks, tags, journaling templates and stamps, words cut out of magazines and junk mail, interview your family to get their views of the subject, just get it down....Just do it.

I just write it down...no penciling it in and coming later with a Sharpie. I don't write it out somewhere else as a "rough draft." What I'm thinking at the moment will be just fine. And if I have a blog entry that works...all the better.

I am addicted to journaling spots and notecards on my layouts. I also go old school and use my journaling templates (basically a stencil of lines in different shapes) I used to do all of my journaling with a pencil then go over with pen, then erase pencil lines. Now I just go with the flow - in pen - just get it down - typos and all.

I usually keep a journal to write every detail down. Also if I scrap everything right away i am still able to recall all of the details!

When I'm working on a mini-book or LO I jot down all my thoughts in a little notebook. Then I can keep or edit what I want. I sometimes have to get away and sit quietly for this to work!

Right now I LOVE to do my jounaling (either computer printed, handwritten, stamped or with rub-ons) directly onto my photos, save them in transparent photopockets and add them to my photowall in the staircase...

I scrap digitally and hybrid and most of my pages are about the journally with photos, etc. as embellishments. Some are better than others but I just let it flow. I also very rarely edit after I'm done. It can be in a poetic form, a story telling form, 1st person or letter writing form. It can be on typed strips, journalling cards or as part of the entire design of the page. It really is interesting to look back at what emotion I was feeling when a particular LO was completed. By the way, thanks for all of your inspiration!

I give my daughter a Sharpie to write with and then I scan her words/journaling to add on top of digital papers and photos.

My tip is just to go for it and force yourself to do it. Also, when I journal, I imagine I am telling the story to someone in person, and then I write it down just as I would speak it. I don't try to get all formal. Even though I was an English major in college and worked in publishing, I use partial sentences and slang terms and the works. I want it to sound exactly the way I would speak, so that my family feels like it was written from my heart!
Now I'm off to order that mug!

First, I love that mug-what a great teacher mug! :)) Second, I agree with the people who said "just do it". When I work on my scrapbooking I do the layout and I won't let myself move on until I've journaled. If I do, I would forget the moment and its details! I also like to use handwritten journaling, then I don't get bogged down in "what stickers to use" or trying to go to the computer later. That way my kids-or their kids, etc. will see my handwriting when I'm old. It's not perfect, but it's me. :)

I keep a blog and have lots of family pressure to update it frequently! I often turn to it for the journaling in a scrap page. But to prep for the blog I keep a notepad and pen on the counter, in the bedroom, in the office, so I can quickly jot down any cute or funny saying that has to be saved.
