Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)
Tags:Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:
True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.
Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).
Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wingsby Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."
Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:
I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

My latest creative play is photography. I am the new owner of a Nikon D60 Camera (my first SLR) and I am enamored with it. I want to sleep with it right next to me, I love it so much! Every spare minute I have is spent reading my manual, trying to tackle this world of professional photography I know nothing about!

I am spending most of my free time coming up with creative paper crafts for my best friends baby shower. She is doing a Pooh theme. Lots of Pooh advice cards, games (that don't involve eating or smelling things) and handmade pre-addressed/pre-stamped thank you's. I am trying to stick with the theme without going overboard!

My best technique is my camera. I love to take photos on the fly. I seem to come up with the unexpected much of the time.

Lately I have totally left scrapbooking for mixed media collage and am enjoying it big time! I can use a photo if I want to, tell a story if I want to (but don't have to)... Doing collage is totally without pressure! Loving it!

A technique that I am just now starting to really play with a lot is stamping on ribbon. It is fun creating ribbons with different words or designs to match whatever theme I need.
Thanks for the opportunity to be inspired!

I've been doing lots more stamping (layering, negative space, cutting out, etc.) in my scrapbooking and I like how it's going. I could use that book to encourage my creative journey. Thanks for sharing the goodness :))

Right now mixed media seems to be what I do the most. I can't remember the last time I worked on my scrapbooks :( I am way way behind and will never be caught up lol

right now, my favourite creative technique is combining photographs, stamped images, patterned paper and ephemera into one-of-a-kind collages. I add words and phrases cut from old books found in thrift stores to add a little glimpse into what's going on in the finished picture. sometimes, even I don't know until those words are glued into place, and then it all comes together. :)

That's a good question. Hmmmm...I have to think about that one. I'm lousy with "favorites."
Three Things : Favorite Techniques
1] Stapling flowers to a strip of paper and swiping a dripping paint brush across the flowers, then using that as an element on a layout.
2] Running my scissor's edge across the edge of my pages (to distress).
3] Making brackets or little clouds out of felt and/or cork pieces to embellish my projects.

Currently, I am deep into scrapbooking. I am making a gift for my dad, our entire family (14 of us) just drove across the country for a huge family reunion with my dad's side of the family. It was a really special trip for all of us, especially my dad. Thanks for such a great opportunity and all the great inspiration your blog gives me!

Hi Ali,
I discovered scrapbooking half a year ago and techniques is what I really need to learn and discover! I live in Russia and scrapbooking is so new and unfamiliar here that I try to learn using every possibility - books, magazines, but mostly Intenet - though first I saw your layouts in a book and than found your blog and now I enjoy every layout you make! I like distressing, stamping, using glitter glue and what I really want to find out - how to use crushed velvet!
Nice giveaway! And take care!

This is probably silly but favorite technique is using a stapler! Hahaha. I like stapling various bits of everyday life into my scrap pages or journals.

Love scrapbooking, but I get bored easily with doing one thing , so I am doing some mixed media stuff also. Currently busy making a wooden memory box for a pregnant friend and liking the way it is turning out. The books look great!! Will definitely be on the lookout for them!
